Chapter 9 - Evangeline Locke

For a second, shock was found in Victor's eyes at why someone would even try to interrupt a prince of a ruling clan.

But then, it morphed into rage at how the guy had even dared to not only interrupt him but also stand in his way.

Ignisius' were known to be emotional and hot-headed, so it was obvious Azariah's act had taken a hit on his pride.

"Who the fuck dares to interrupt me?" Victor cursed, his crimson eyes looking up to meet the eyes of Azariah.

They weren't known to hold their tongues back either, unfortunately.

"Like I said, she's already seated," Azariah reiterated himself, not caring to tell who he was.

Rage completely took over Victor as he took another step towards Azariah.

But then, a voice came from behind.

"Wait, this is that fucker from yesterday!"

It was one of Victor's lackeys that were standing behind him, ready for a fight.

And also the guy whose spell got nullified by Azariah.

For the first time, a frown etched on his features.

'As if this couldn't get any worse.'

"So you have a habit of getting in everyone's way, is it?"

From this point, it was obvious that he was ready to fight in the class.

What was his loss? Azariah was probably any random Division 1 student trying to act like a hero on his first day.

He would get away easily with whatever happened.

"I'll show you who you're messing with, prick." Victor stretched out his hand.

Azariah didn't react to his move. He was still calm as ever as he saw flames manifesting on Victor's hand.

He knew Alyssa didn't care enough about him to interfere and save him. But there was someone who would.

Just as the flames stretched out from Victor's hand, the classroom door quietly opened.

With the door opening, the flames suddenly vanished into thin air as well, and the classroom was suddenly dropped to a hush, leaving out all noise.

"Victor Ignisius, you have been noted for a direct infringement of basic class rules. A deduction of 5 points will be made on your next test."

A soft but cold feminine voice was heard in every student's ear in the class.

Maybe the others didn't know her, but Azariah knew her well enough to send a chill down his spine at her voice.

Victor, still caught in his emotions, turned back in fury only to meet two grey eyes staring at him.

Just a moment of contact was enough for him to completely shut up and forget about everything.

Gritting his teeth, he started stepping down the stairs with his lackeys to go find another seat.

'Thank god. Another second and I'd be hospitalized.'

Not wanting to become a target of the woman in front of him, Azariah was quick to take the nearest empty seat for himself.

Complete silence descended in the class as the woman walked over to the podium at the centre stage of the class.

Wearing a professional office suit, she had a black overcoat on top paired with high-heel boots.

Her lush black hair cascaded down her back in the form of curly waves, providing her with an almost ethereal beauty.

Her tempting figure and walk could literally be the reason for any man's going insane.

One would almost find themselves instantly falling for her if not for those deadbeat grey eyes that looked back at you.

Any sort of contact would almost make you feel like your soul was being snatched.

As she settled down on the podium, for a split second, Azariah felt as if her eyes weaved towards him.

His breath caught up in his throat before relief came back a second later.

'Was I hallucinating, or was that real?'

He wouldn't know, as the woman had already gone back to her work and was now facing the class.

"Greetings. My name is Evangeline Locke, and I'll be the current homeroom teacher of this class, D1A1."

As her name was said, several gasps were heard across the classroom.

"Yes, I'm sure many of you are aware of who I am by my name. Though some of you already knew who I was the moment I entered the class, some already knew me by name. I hope you are all well familiar with who I am now."

And she was right.

Even though maybe half of the current younger generation might not have seen her, they'd have definitely heard her name at least once.

Every single person would know her name. That's how famous Evangeline Locke was.

Nicknamed 'The Grey Sniper', Evangeline Locke was one of the highest-ranked figures in the academy.

She was 16th overall in the NSR (Nippon Synapth Ranking), making her the 16th most powerful human in this country.

Known for her elite gun skills and shooting sequences, Evangeline was one of the few people many organizations dared not to mess with.

Even the top 10 clans tried not to interfere in her way, mostly.

That's how influential she was.

For what reason she had chosen not to join the military or NSF and stay in the academy, it was never revealed in the game.

Azariah wasn't responsible for adding details of every character in the game in just one release, after all.

Though he did remember that Evangeline was supposed to be quite a significant character in the story.

"If you guys are done whispering, I'll proceed with the roll call," she said, her eyes never leaving the students.

Just her voice was compelling enough to put the whole class to pin-drop silence. It was as if they were intentionally putting themselves under her control.

'Scary.'

"Azariah Indrath. Rank 1947."

Startled, Azariah quickly recovered and raised his hand.

"Present."

For a moment, he saw her eyes move from the screen towards him at his rank. And just the contact was enough to put him at a standstill before she went back.

'Does she not know how that feels from the student's point of view?'

Unfortunately, she did not care as she proceeded with the roll call.

But the damage had been done. Every student was now looking at Azariah because of his rank.

This was because the next student after him…

"Brandon Stetham. Rank 89."

Yes, he was not only the weakest student in this class. He was the weakest by a ginormous margin.

'I should have known this was coming.'

In his head, he was close to cursing Evangeline. The roll call was never supposed to proceed in ascending order.

Well, what could he do about it?

He could just smell the seething rage from Victor somewhere in the class.

'I need to get ready for my life ahead.' He sighed.
