"What is going on?!" Emma shrieked, jumping to her feet.
"Did it not work?" Angela gasped, covering her mouth in fear. "What is going to happen now?"
"Mother, what do we do?" Serena grasped her mother's arm, tugging at her like a helpless child. "This is horrible!"
"It's poison."
I said those words to myself, yet somehow, all of a sudden, the spotlight was solely on me. I wasn't even sure how I had come to such a radical conclusion, but deep down in my heart, I knew I was right.
Or rather... I had seen the poison's effect in my previous life.
"She said the Priest's son was poisoned!" Someone exclaimed, pushing me in front of the gathered crowd.
I felt incredibly small under the sudden, intense scrutiny of dozens of eyes drilling right through me.
"Who said that?!" The King's voice struck me like a lightning bolt, instantly setting my body on fire. My palms turned sweaty, but despite all that, I trembled as if I were stuck in an ice storm.
