Chapter 4 - Chapter 4

Solum sat in the chair still looking terrified trying to calm himself down.

"Solum why did you do this?" a teacher asked hesitantly not knowing how to start the conversation.

Solum had no words to answer, he himself wasn't sure.

" Now Solum listen-" the teacher started hesitantly with a pause. " I know things seemed to be different - but Solum this was a very grave offense," she stated carefully.

Solum wasn't a violent kid, everyone in the entire school knew that. He was very respected and was seen as a model student by all the school staff. He was quiet, obedient and never rose to anger. But his actions displayed now were very new. There must have been something that led him to become like this.

" Now Solum listen. We'll have to call your parents before you can leave. Where's your mother?" She asked smoothly.

Hearing that sentence Solum was petrified into a state of shock. After a passing second he was staring into space. The teacher before him saw a swift in his actions and started calling out to him. She got no response.

She could see he was in a state of panic as he trempled. She felt even more concerned and slowly started to approach him carefully.

Through Solum's eyes she was a monster slowly crawling towards him striking him with fear. His heart heartbeat quicken as he sank deeper into the chair trying to go through it. He counted the steps as the figure crawled closer.

The atmosphere was chilly and dark, the figure walked closer with a blood dripping enormous open mouth. The sounds of its footsteps sounded wet and sappy.Solum knew this feeling. He saw a light way, that seemed different from the entire room.

His teacher was only a hand reach away when he got up rushing and out the door like a madman. She called out, but Solum did not stop.

" Solum!" She called.

Solum rushed out not taking a second to look behind him. There was only one thing on his mind and it wasn't to get away. It was to find his mother.

Solum kept running with his blood stained uniform that catched the attention of people in the city. But Solum could hardly see them. He kept running and finally coming to a stop was a police station. He rushed in out of breath and the officers there instinctively clutched their gun.

" Boy what are you doing?" an officer asked wanting answers.

" Please sir my mother she was eaten, she's gone. Find her," followed Solum's wet response as he broke into tear.

" get him some water,"

" Take him to the office,"

Solum was led into a small cubicle area as an officer came to take his case. But surprisingly instead of saying his mother was devoured by a monster Solum's response was that his mother had been gone for a few days and he couldn't contact her.

The officer listen and a few others turned their ear focusing to hear the discussion. Solum was given a form to fill out with his name, adress, parents name and the situation.

After filling out the report they gave his father a call.

" Good morning officers seems like my son caused an uproar. I was very busy," Cary said hearty upon arriving. The sound of hearing Cary's voice made Solum shudder. An officer noticed.

An officer, Solum and his father sat together in a private area. But other officers passed by needlessly as they wanted to know what was going on.

" Seems it must be hard on you Mr. Cary,"

" Yes, but he's only a child," Cary chuckled. " " I'm sorry for the trouble he's costed officer, it's that ever since his mother left two years ago he haven't been taking it well. Sometimes he runs off asking for ahhh - help" Cary finally said sounding calm with a light chuckle the finish it off.

The officer rose a brow, finding this man's demeanor too relaxed. But there wasn't much he could do.

Throughout the entire hour of questioning Solum was quiet. He knew mom wasn't dead, or was she?

Cary shook the officer's hand with a gentle smile and bowed to show respect as he turned to leave.

" You caused me a lot of trouble Son," Cary stated something extra in his calm tone as he patted his son's head.

Solum slapped his father's hand away, looking up to meet his eyes with his serious one that carried fury. With a serious tone with breaking eye contact Solum stated that his mother wasn't gone, but his father ate her.

They both stared eachother as if it was a contest.

" Solum,"

" Solum,"

" Solum!"

Solum was snapped from his thoughts, he didn't say any of those words, it was all in his head.

" Get in the car son. You must be tired you aren't even hearing well," Cary said as if he was concerned.

Solum didn't answer sliding into the back seat. His father sat around the staring wheel and started the engine. Before he left the parking lot Cary checked his mirrors. First he checked on Solum who sat quietly and then the other mirrors.

Cary see that a few officers were still looking at him and pointing. His eye thinen to a darker gaze. Solum shivered feeling a sudden drop of the atmosphere in the car. Looking at the police Cary knew they were about to do something soon.

Throughout the drive with his humming father Solum eyes caught sight of the red nail polish that was drawn shaping like a heart near the air conditioner.

After reaching home Cary kept up the caring, calm, happy farcade.

" Now Son, go and take a long shower," Cary suggested.

" Yes Cary," Solum muttered going up the stairs.

As he finally reached the top he turned to his parents room and was drawn to it. He carefully walked forward opening the door that wasn't locked. She shoved it with his heart tat suddenly thumped.

Entering the room it was different from what he had expected. His mom's things were still there.

" Didn't I tell you to take a shower Son?" A voice asked causing him to jump a little.
