Chapter 6 - Chapter 6

The officers drove off with many suspicion, but each on could be labeled as a coincidence. But the officers knew something was going on at that house.

The officers continued their drive down the road still intrigued by the earlier activities.

" And didn't you see how he suddenly looked like pissed or angered that time when I asked to see his wife death certificate," the tall officer asked.

When he had asked to see the certificate earlier he made sure to put an apology first before the question. But when he had asked his question a strange emotion was displayed flashing across Cary's face for less than a second before it was masked again.

Cary scratch led the back of his head shyly, but didn't answer his question. In response the officer told him that he didn't have to and it must be really hard though something like that.

" That's right. That's exactly what it is," Cary said agreeing at the time.

" No I was looking at the boy," the shorter officer answered, answering the question from before. He had his head down scribbling in a little notepad. Suddenly he had the urge to look up and there he saw an all black cat in the street.

The car wasn't slowing down and he looked to the side to see his companion who was in his own head.

" Slow down Park a cat's in the street!" the shorter officer alerted.

"Huh,"

Park heard his partner and was brought from his thoughts. He noticed the cat and immediately slammed down on the breaks. The car's wheel gripped the road slowing down and when it did stop the cat was only a few inches away from being hit.

" You need to focus Park," the shorter officer said with a slight scold in his voice as he exhaled.

" Yeah. Thanks Eyon,"

They both hadn't seen the cat pass so they undid their seatbelts to check what have become of the small animal. When they stepped down from either side of the door they went to check the front.

Park and Eyon stood on either side of the vehicle and their they saw the cat sitting swaying it's tail while staring at the car. The cat then lifted itself standing on all feet. It turned it's head the Eyon staring at him and started walking off slowly. While it walked it kept it's gaze on Eyon.

When the cat was passing Park it was now staring at him. Both man stood bewildered with a slight creeping of fear in their chest. The cat kept walking, crossing the road it still had it's eyes staring at the two who stood like stone watching it.

" Oh white!" an elderly woman on the said happy seeing the cat. The cat leapt in her arms.

" You silly white cat,"

The officers heard her and wondered if she had problems with seeing colours. As the cat they were looking at was darker that black itself.

" Wherever you're going you need to stop or something might happen to you," the old woman said patting her cat.

Park and Eyon couldn't help but feel uneasy with these words, why did they feel like a warning to them rather than the cat.

The cat meowed before hopping from it's owners hands. It looked it's gaze onto the two police officers for a second before running to the road to go across it again.

A loud horn was blurred through the air and the cat didn't move. The next second it was ran over it's blocked coating the road. It's bones crushed under the trucks tires and was instantly killed.

" Oh White!" the old woman cried out into a sob.

The driver jumped out the truck, he apologized explaining it wasn't his fault the cat simply appeared and wouldn't move. The old woman simply cried.

" I told you something would happen if you went back!" the old woman cried.

Park looked at Eyon and he did the same. Looking down they saw the cat's eyeballs before them and even now it was still staring at them. Both policemen didn't utter a word, they quickly got in their vehicle and drove off, silence was the only language they spoke until they reached the station.

They brought the case forward, but they were told they would be given more information as their case seemed flat.

Park and Eyon continued their day soon forgetting the incident that happened. The next day they went to school collecting information. The teachers happily assisted as they were concerned about Solum. The teachers told him everything since the beginning of his odd behavior.

The officers knew something was wrong. If his mother had been gone for two years why was he acting up now. Nothing was making sense, it's as if all the puzzle pieces were being used to create a whole new image.

A teacher handed Solum's school bag the the officers asking them to return it as everyone at the school keeps forgetting about it. They were given permission to speak with the students and that's what they did. But all the students said the same thing, he wasn't focusing in classes, he was often late, he barely ate, he was too quiet, he seemed a bit violent and he counted a lot.

Finding nothing extra in their information gathering they decided to return the bag. The could take this opportunity to ask more questions or to press the matter of seeing the death certificate, but they couldn't do so as their boss told them to wait until the papers were finalized.

Eyon opened Solum's bag knowing no one would ever find out he did such a thing. There were only books and school materials in the bag. He pulled out the English book and there were only the notes taken from school.

Eyon flipped the pages, but at the middle he came to a sudden stop seeing the words written.

' Stop it ' was written on the the remaining pages. These words were written upside-down, backwards, big and small and even overlapped each other in dark ink.
