As she stared into Solum's eyes she wondered if this boy had a soul.
Officer Kim retracted her hand and returned to her companions side. They all sat in silence, the only sounds that were heard was Solum's pen against the book's page and the tick of a clock.
Suddenly the door was open and in came Cary with a bag of groceries. The officers stood greeting him and Cary reacted surprised as if he hadn't seen the big police vehicle at his gate.
Cary said his greetings walking to the counter before resting the grocery bags on it.
After doing that he shook Eyon's hand and then Park's, then Mak and then lastly Kim.
Kim took the gentle Cary's hand. Her entire body went cold. She slowly looked up to meet his kind eyes. She stared into them not being able to look away.
Suddenly the form of what he truly was flashed before her. Kim snatched her hand trembling, she exhaled quickly masking her fright. She stumbled back but was caught by Officer Park's strong arm that prevented her fall.
" Wow, are you ok?" Park asked.
" Yes, I'm ok," came her stuttery response.
" Is there a problem miss Kim?" Cary asked looking concerned for the frightened woman.
" No it's just," she paused thinking. " Spiders, I'm arachnophobic, yeah," she stutterered stepping back. " I'll be in the car," were her last words before leaving with wide steps.
" Well that's sad," Cary commented watching her go.
The remaining officers knew that Kim's words were a lie, but they said nothing of it. They would speak of it when they return.
They investigated Cary's house lifting and shifting furnitures. Opening and closing anything that could. They did their investigation for an hour, but could hardly find anything.
The last thing they did was to ask to see his wife's death certificate. Cary froze up once more just like before. His response was not what they expected.
" My wife isn't really dead," he admitted with a pause that no one broke as the silence was stretched for a few seconds. " She kinda of just left," Cary finished calmly, a bit too calm.
" Oh," the three officers said not knowing what else to say in this situation. Park and Eyon didn't even want this mission in the first place so they left the conversation as it was.
Officer Mak never expected this from the great dou of Eyon and Park. Seeing how they work he was shocked and wondered if they were really as talented as the others said they were. How could a man lie about the death of his wife and have a wife missing for sone time now, but didn't report it.
They didn't prolong the conversation, but took their leave instead. They asked officer Kim why she left so quickly, in response she answered with her voice shaking.
" that man's a demon," she didn't care if they would believe her. Officer Park and Eyon thought with serious of her words, but officer Mak scoffed.
Officer Eyon and Park man eye contact with no words. They knew that officer Kim was working hard to get a promotion so she wouldn't be lying. Officer Mak simply chuckled, but he didn't say anything.
When they reached the Station their boss wanted to hear from them. Upon hearing the ridiculousness of there report he was frustrated with them, but not Mak. They brought ghost stories to his ears, two of his best cops were frightened to investigate a man because of some ridiculous superstition, and they seemed to have influenced another.
Officer Eyon, Park and Kim didn't want to have a role with further investigations. Officer Mak thought they were just crazy, he stayed behind insisting to have a chance with the investigation. Eventually he was given the case, his partner officer Kim didn't want to be involved so he would have to get someone else.
The following morning bright and early the news was broadcasting the deaths of four officers.
" It's with great sadness to inform the public of the passing of two of the best policemen known as officer Park and Eyon,"
A picture was shown of both men happily smiling.
" Also two other upcoming officers name Officer Kim and Mak was also found dead,"
A picture of them was also shown.
" Officer Eyon was found on the sidewalks by a passerbyer with the front surface of his skin missing, he seemingly bled to death after such an ordeal,"
" Officer Park was found in his car, the securityguard was informed as the car hadn't moved from the supermarket parking lot since it arrived last night. Officer was found in the backseat of his car and seem to have been mauled,"
" Officer Mak was found at his door by a neighbor and seemed to have died by some sort of animal attack, but the experts are unable to rule out with animal,"
" And lastly officer Kim was found dead with no injuries in her house. Her daughter called neighbors after seeing her mother unresponsive to calls and touch. There no injuries and neither were there poison in her body, for now the experts are suspecting she died from some sort of shock,"
The news went on pretty much the entire day and throughout the night, every TV and Radio channel was voicing their opinions as they wondered who could have possess such thoughts to put those deaths into reality.
A week had pass and still their was a channel or two having a memorial service for the passing officers.
There were four dead officers and one missing woman, and so far no leads. In fact they did have a lead, it was Cary. When they went to check his house he was no more.
It seems he had moved away and no one knew where.
They did a throughout investigation of his house where they found a tiny patch of blood dried up under the counter. Upon further testing it was Solum's mother's blood and now she was suspected to be dead.
Four months had passed since then and Cary and Solum started a quiet life in a different city.
Solum was now a boy who barely spoke, he wasn't sure if it was a mental problem or fear. But he kept quiet and went to school his new school.
Many things had changed since then, he even had a new sister and a new brother. And he had a new mother. He didn't care for any of them, sometimes he felt sorry for them, but his emotions were never expressed.
On other occasions he thought to himself wondering why should he feel sorry for them. When his father, Cary was out he heard his new mother and her daughter laughing saying Cary was a stupid man.
When Solum moved with his father he only took a month to start dating this woman called Melissa. Her first appearance was of a woman suffering in poverty looking three times her age, but after meeting her naive saver she could now eat three time a day and sleep on a soft mattress.
Or she at least thought her saver was Naive.
