Cane's POV
FIVE YEARS LATER
Five years. Sometimes it feels like yesterday. Other times it feels like a whole lifetime has passed. A lifetime of trying to forget. A lifetime of remembering.
The man standing in front of my desk was Marco. I've known him for ten years. I trusted him with my life. More importantly, I trusted him with my family.
Now I know that was a mistake.
He was sweating. I could see it shining on his forehead under the office lights. He wouldn't look me in the eye.
I didn't say anything. I just watched him. The quiet in the room was so thick you could almost touch it.
Finally, he cracked. "Cane… boss… please. Let me explain."
I stood up. My chair made a loud noise on the floor. He flinched. I walked around the desk slowly. Each step felt heavy. When I got close to him, I could smell his fear.
I didn't waste time with words. I just hit him. My fist connected with his jaw. It was a solid punch. He cried out and fell to his knees.
