Cane's POV
I stood in the hotel lobby feeling like a fool. The carpet was too bright, the lights were too soft, and I was standing around like some kind of stalker. Armstrong stood beside me, looking as uncomfortable as I felt.
"You're sure she's staying here?" I asked him for what felt like the tenth time. My voice was low, but it sounded too loud in the quiet lobby.
"The Luxen Circle confirmed it," Armstrong said, his eyes scanning the room. The Luxen Circle – that's the fancy name for the group of informants I run in the underworld. They're my eyes and ears. "The intel is solid. She's supposed to check in today."
For months, there had been whispers. A new player. A woman. They called her "The Sparrow." She was smart, they said. Ruthless. She was building her own network, stepping on toes that belonged to me. My people were getting nervous. Someone was challenging Bishop, and they were doing it well. I needed to see who had the guts to try.
