The day passed after my little chat with Rezex, nothing else really happened. Reika still seemed to have that sad look to her most of the day but it didn't matter.
I just went back to my room to wait for what was to come next.
It seems like I should be getting some work soon though since we've been conducting a lot of jobs at night. Probably the most effective method when it comes to handling business.
A lot of gangs also operate with the same mentality but not the smart ones.
My thoughts were thrown off when a sudden knock started at my door. "Zero, we've got another job." Pinky's voice could just barely be heard behind the door.
Pinky coming to give me a job was a bit of a surprise since he doesn't usually give me the jobs. Usually I get them from some guy named Luciel, but I guess he isn't handling the jobs today.
"Yeah. Yeah. I'm coming." I responded loud enough for him to hear me.
I grabbed my pistol and made sure it was loaded like usual. I didn't really have that much to bring with me typically, just a small duffel bag and my deagle.
Click. The door opened up, Pinky was just standing there staring right at me.
"I was about to open the door. Impatient much." I said with a calm tone.
"Whatever. Let's go." Pinky replied while starting to walk.
I just followed behind Pinky for awhile until we reached the car, he wasn't much of a talkative guy. It also seems like it it just the two of us on this job today so that'll make for a long, painful experience.
The drives through the city were always nice though since I didn't have to walk amongst the filth. Most of this district was pretty bad, the deals on these streets were disgusting.
I've got no idea what the job is since Pinky hasn't uttered a damn word about it but I'm sure it'll be easy. None of the jobs have been terribly hard yet.
This is all in preparation for the big raid on the mana port, not that I changed my mind about it. The whole idea of raiding a mana port seems completely stupid to me.
But I can't help but thinking about what Rezex said before. He told me to ask doc to teach me how to use the mana that's within my arm.
Mana is the main source of magic, something that very little people know how to use. It feels like it could be more of a burden than anything else so I'd rather not use it.
Gahhh. I'm conflicted about the whole thing.
"We are making an exchange with a group known as the rotorheads. They aren't the brightest or much of a threat but they have something we need." Pinky spoke up for the first time since the car ride began.
"Alright. I'll still be ready if things go south." I replied while looking out the window.
The neon signs across the buildings are always so bright, lighting up the streets for everyone to see. All with different businesses advertising themselves, not that the products are worth investing in.
Kairox truly is a different type of city when you really think about it. A mega city with so much to see and so much to avoid at the same time.
There's not a lot of places like it either. Kairox is one of very few cities to actually have some of the advancements that we have. It is also one of the biggest cities in the world, if the reputation was better... We'd have more people swarming in here.
Most reside in the other cities instead, the ones that are on the more peaceful side of the world.
I've heard people claim that a city way out in the north is a good place to live. The city of Ashvalis, not that I can imagine living so far away from Kairox.
"We are almost to the meeting point fresh meat. Hope you are ready." Pinky said with a serious tone.
He's always so serious and doesn't seem to have much of a comedic side to him which sucks. If I try to joke or be sarcastic he just gets pissed off about it.
I get pissed off about a lot of shit too so I can understand it in some ways, just not about everything.
But maybe being more of a serious person is the smartest approach since emotions aren't going to benefit anyone. I said this to myself awhile ago so it is the best path to stay on.
"I've been working hard for a week now, this is nothing." I respond with confidence.
The surroundings around us were starting to look like shit as we got closer to the meeting point Pinky mentioned. It was an old alleyway with lots of scrapped parts around.
It definitely wasn't some fancy place for us to be meeting this group but it doesn't matter. I could just barely see the guys we are meeting in the distance too.
They looked like some monsters out of a horror story with the types of metal they have installed. The nickname rotorhead is kind of suiting for these guys.
Most of the metal was in their heads, clear as day.
"Always a terrible sight for the eyes." Pinky said with a bit of disgust in his voice.
"I can definitely agree with you on that." I agreed with a bit of disgust evident in my voice as well.
Personally I hope someone will put me out of my misery if I ever ask for metal to be fully installed in my head. That is seriously some crazy shit.
Metal is good for a lot of things, but certainly not for your entire head. There can't be that much of an advantage to have so much work done.
Or am I missing out on a smart move? Nah.
