Jay's POV
I was lying in bed, waiting for someone's call.
After a while, my phone started to ring. It was already midnight—00:00.
I was waiting because it was my birthday.
I picked up the call. He was the one I had been waiting for.
"Happy birthday to yo u, Happy birthday to yo u, Happy birthday, happy birthday, Happy birthday to you."
"You're eighteen now," he said."Happy birthday, my mutya. May you find success in everything, always be happy, and always be mine," he added happily."I'm yours, and I'll always be yours," I said. "What gift will you give me?" I added playfully. "My gift for you is in London," he said.
And what is that? I asked.
"When you go there as my wife, you will get it," he said.
"Okay, so what are you going to give me tomorrow?" I asked.
"If I tell you what the gift is, it will no longer be a gift for you," he replied.
"Okay, okay. If you don't want to tell me, I won't force you," I said.
"It's late now. Go to sleep," he said.
"Okay, see you tomorrow at the hotel. Bye, love you," I said.
"See you tomorrow, wifey. Love you until scientists find the end of the universe," he said, then ended the call.
I tried to sleep for a while, but I couldn't. I felt hungry too, so I decided to go downstairs to the kitchen to find something to eat.
As I turned to go back, I saw Mama holding a cake, Tita Wash holding balloons, Aries holding a gift, and Kuya Angelo holding a lighter for the candles.
"Happy birthday to yo u, Happy birthday to yo u, Happy birthday, happy birthday, happy birthday to you."
"Happy birthday to my daughter," Mama said.
"Happy birthday, JJ," Tita said.
"Happy birthday to my little sister," Aries said while handing me the gift. Kuya lit the candles and said, "Come on now, make a wish and blow the candles."
I made a wish and blew out the candles. Then, I cut the cake.
Everyone fed me cake, and then I fed everyone cake, one by one.
After that, Kuya Angelo came to me and handed me my passport and ticket to London, and said—
"You can meet your papa. You can stay with him, but you'll have to leave everything else behind — even Keifer," he said, then left.
After celebrating, I went to my room. I thought for a while and lay down on my bed, holding my phone.
Keifer's POV
I was trying to sleep, but I couldn't. I thought of calling Jay, but she must have already fallen asleep.
Tin tin tin… Suddenly, my phone rang.
When I saw the name, I immediately picked up the call."I was just thinking of calling you—" I couldn't finish my sentence before she said,
"There's a problem, Keifer."
"What is it?" I asked.
While celebrating today, Kuya gave me a passport and a ticket to London. He said, "You can meet your father and stay with him," she said.
"Oh, so what's the big deal in that? If you stay in London, then we can both be together — and London has good universities too," I said happily. But my smile quickly faded when she said the next words.
"He wants to separate me from you. He said I have to leave everything behind."
(A pause)
"He said I would have to choose between the two."
"So… did you think of anything?" I asked.
"I don't understand anything. What should I do?" she asked, her voice trembling as she cried.
"Why does he need to do this? Why does he have to take Jay away from me? Why does he want this?" I asked myself.
Then she began to speak…
I let you go before, but I won't let this opportunity slip away again. Last time, it was easy — but this time, it's different.
"I can't lose you this time," she said, her crying growing louder.
"Don't cry, baby. We'll handle everything together," I said softly.
Suddenly, an idea popped into my mind.
"Wifey, I have a plan," I said.
"What's that?" she asked.
