In the morning.
The sky above Seoul was streaked in silver and pale gold, but the city felt… softer somehow. Every sound—passing cars, distant chatter—seemed filtered through something invisible.
Seo Jin stirred awake on the couch, his body still heavy with exhaustion. The fox was curled on the table, snoring faintly, tail flicking with every dream. For the first time in days, the apartment was calm.
He breathed in—
and froze.
The air was thick.
It wasn't heat. It wasn't humidity.
It was something deeper—warmer. The scent was familiar, dangerously so.
Spice. Smoke. And something faintly electric.
Li Ran.
Seo Jin sat up sharply. His pulse quickened before his mind could catch up. The scent filled the air like a low hum, seeping into every breath he took.
"Li Ran?" he called, voice uneven.
No answer.
He found him on the balcony.
