In the apartment.
The apartment was silent. Way too silent.
Seo Jin could hear his own heartbeat pounding in his ears, fast and uneven. His gaze darted between the fox's flickering hologram and Li Ran — who stood perfectly still, unreadable, the morning light cutting across his sharp features.
"…Inside one of us?" Seo Jin repeated, his voice barely above a whisper.
The fox nodded grimly. "The fragment's energy signature is fused with organic code. That means one of you isn't just linked to it — you're hosting it."
Li Ran's eyes narrowed, a red glint flickering in them. "So it's parasitic."
"Or symbiotic," the fox said. "Depends on which of you it chose."
Seo Jin felt his chest tighten. "It could've chosen either of us. We both absorbed fragments during the rewrite."
"True," the fox replied. "But the readings are spiking near the bond frequency. That means it's reacting to emotional output."
Seo Jin blinked, confused. "Meaning…?"
