Chapter 22 - Chapter 22: The Bottom Line Destined to Be Broken

"Hawk, take a look at the data."

  "One hundred and eight."

"Hawk, I need to go to the SL lab. Please help me collect the documents on my desk."

  "No problem."

  "Hawk..."

Today was Hawk's twentieth day at Osborne Bio-Industries as a summer intern.

But he still hadn't had a chance to visit Dr. Connors' lab.

Because in the past twenty days, let alone visit Dr. Connors' lab, he hadn't even left the main entrance of the Electrical Engineering Department.

He was busy from the start of the shift until the end of it, either helping someone review data or on their way to review data.

Or, like now, helping someone collect documents from their desk.

Hawk watched the engineer hurriedly leave and walked towards his desk.

Although he hadn't had a chance to visit Dr. Connors' lab in twenty days at Osborne, he wasn't in a hurry.

For one thing, good food is worth waiting for.

For another, it was because although it was busy here, the salary was really good.

Eight hundred dollars a week, and the cafeteria on the eighteenth floor had buffets for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Although Hawke had considered robbing a bank last month, he ultimately didn't act on it.

The most important point was this:while boundaries are meant to be crossed, Hawke was determined not to cross them beforehand, if possible.

  He was afraid.

Hawke didn't know what would become of him if he did.

It's common knowledge that time travelers have a very flexible moral compass, possessing an inherent indifference towards everything and everyone.

  Hawke was no exception.

This was also why he never socialized. Sometimes, looking at others, he felt like looking at an NPC.

It felt like, well, everyone else was drunk, but I was the only one sober.

The reason he was still willing to follow the rules after awakening his inner universe was actually very simple.

The teachings he received in his previous life taught him to be a good person—not necessarily a good one, but a bad one.

This was why Hawke continued to live a relatively simple life after awakening his inner universe.

If it were any other time traveler, they'd probably awaken their inner universe on the first day and declare to the world the next day, "Those who obey me will prosper, those who disobey me will perish.

" Of course, the most important factor might be his kindness!

  Unfortunately...

Hawke felt that this bottom line, no matter how much he hated it, would have to be broken soon.

But until then, he was willing to abide by it.

Having already been working for ten days and familiar with the Bio-Electrical Engineering Department, Hawke quickly sorted through the scattered documents on the engineers' desks.

Then, carrying them, he went to the filing cabinets and put them away in an orderly manner.

Just then, the office phone rang.

  "Hawk..."

  "I'll take it,"

Hawke answered, walking over and answering. "Electrical Engineering Department."

"Huh, Hawke?" A familiar voice came from the other end.

  Hawke raised an eyebrow. "Gwen?"

He hadn't seen Gwen since she brought him to the Bio-Electrical Engineering Department ten days ago.

  After all, he was busy.

  Gwen was even busier.

Even though Hawke is now in the Department of Bioelectrical Engineering, he has heard that Dr. Connors has been doing experiments like a madman these days.

They didn't even bother pressing the mouse button; they just pressed the box.

  Exaggeration.

Gwen on the other end of the line hummed.

"It's me. By the way, our lab's voltage is unstable right now. Dr. Connors asked you to send someone over to check it out."

  "Okay, right away."

Hawke hung up and told the head of engineering what had happened.

The fifty-year-old, completely bald, and seemingly undemanding director glanced around the empty office.

"Every lab's been reporting unstable voltage today. I think it's the resistor again.

We just replaced it yesterday.

Never mind, you, take Hawke with you to Dr. Connors' lab and help them replace the resistor."

Hawke followed his director's gaze, looking not far away at the future Electron.

His expression was innocent, his skin was dark, and he looked like an honest man.

  Yes.

  An honest man.

Max Dillon truly was an honest man, not at all the cunning and sly of other dark-skinned people.

Hawke had seen it all over those twenty days.

If the Bio-Electrical Engineering Department had a "hard worker" award, Max Dillon was the undisputed winner.

If Max Dillon had a bit of political acumen, he wouldn't have been so blindly working, only to find his supervisor couldn't remember his name.

Max himself didn't seem to mind, perhaps accustomed to being addressed as someone else.

So, after hearing his supervisor's order, he simply nodded and headed back to the warehouse to get parts.

A moment later,Hawke, who had been waiting for the honest Max at the entrance of the Bio-Electrical Engineering Department, looked at Max as he approached. "Mr. Dillon,"

Max's body jolted, his pupils seemingly constricting.

His voice trembled as he looked at Hawke. "You... know my name?"

Hawke smiled. "Of course, Mr. Dillon."

While he had no intention of engaging with the future Electro, that didn't mean he wasn't interested in forging a good relationship with the present Max.

Treat others with kindness, and treat yourself with kindness.

Hawke pondered, then looked at Max, whose eyes seemed to be filled with tears, and said, "Mr. Dillon, let's go. Dr. Connors' lab just called again, urging us to get started.

" Max, coming to his senses, nodded repeatedly, "Yes, yes, let's go."

Hawke smiled inwardly and followed Max towards the nearby elevator.

Finally, they could go to Dr. Connors' lab.

After following Max into the elevator, Hawke looked at the screen showing the upward movement and sighed.

Over the past twenty days, he had thought more than once about how to get to Dr. Connors' lab,but he hadn't succeeded once.

After all, this wasn't like going to the market to buy groceries.

Did he really think that Osborne Bio-Industries, which had invested heavily in developing regenerative technology and hoped to monopolize the market, could just walk into the lab and walk away?

Then, when he calmed down and let things take their course, the opportunity to go to Dr. Connors' lab presented itself.

  As expected.

Attitude is crucial; don't rush anything.

Hawke silently reminded himself, completing his daily self-reflection.

  Soon,the elevator doors opened.

"Hawk." Gwen, who was already waiting in the elevator, had her eyes light up. Seeing Hawke coming out, she hurried forward.

"Why are you so slow? Dr. Connors is mad."

Hawke was about to speak when Gwen had already taken action and hurriedly dragged him towards the laboratory.

  Hawke was stunned.

But at the same time, he looked towards the laboratory not far away.

His heart couldn't help but move!
