Chapter 26 - Chapter 26: Died on the way before the work was halfway done!

The next day.

Hawke was taking the subway on his way to Osborn Bioindustries for his summer job, still thinking about the gamma stone he had left at the Quantico Military Base.

  He had thought it through.

If he wanted to rob the Quantico Military Base, there was only one way.

A quick fight and a quick decision.

  No delay.

After all, the place he was going to attack was the Quantico Military Base, not some other place.

The Federal Police Academy was there.

Even the famous Langley headquarters was there.

  To put it bluntly.

Going to rob Quantico was no different from shitting on the heads of the federal military, the FBI, and the CIA.

But even if he had to shit on the heads of the military, the FBI, and the CIA, he would still go.

  Gamma stone.

He was determined to get it.

  "But..."

"Preparedness is the key to success."

"I need to go to Quantico first and scout the area."

"At the very least, I'll do a site visit and plan an escape route."

Hawke pondered silently as he swiped his card and entered the Osborn Bio-Industry Building, returning to the Bio-Engineering Department.

Then he was called into the supervisor's office.

Max Dillon, the future Electro, was there.

The middle-aged, balding, seemingly indifferent supervisor's expression was grim.

After a moment's silence, he turned to Max Dillon and said, "Starting today, you'll be assigned to the maintenance team."

  Max Dillon was taken aback.

  "Supervisor, I..."

"I'm not finished,"the supervisor interrupted Max Dillon.

He looked at Hawke and sighed.

"Hawk, you're fired, but you'll get your weekly salary for this week."

  Hawke blinked.

He wasn't as surprised as Max.

Although he had guessed the reason, he still looked at the supervisor calmly.

  "Can I ask why?"

"The accident in Dr. Connors' laboratory yesterday."

  As expected.

  Hawke thought to himself.

Max,who was standing by, heard this and said hurriedly: "Director, what does the power outage have to do with us? Our bioelectricity has always been used to supply the daily electricity for the building.

For example, the electricity used by the equipment in each department is not..."

The director covered his forehead and said: "Okay, this is not a discussion, but a decision. You go out first, Hawke stays."

Max was stunned and looked at Hawke beside him.

  Hawke shrugged.

  "It's okay, Max."

  "...Okay."

Max heard this and looked at the director.

He seemed to want to say something, but he opened his mouth, lowered his head, and walked out.

After Max left the office, the supervisor sighed again and looked at Hawke.

"I'm sorry.

I'll do everything I can to keep Max, but I can't keep you.

You're a great person, Hawke.

If you have any requests, just let me know and I'll do my best to satisfy them."

Hawke smiled and said, "No problem. Just explain it to Mrs. Snow for me."

He had come to Osborne Bioindustries specifically to find Gamanion.

Now that Gamanion had been found, his purpose had been fulfilled.

In that case, there was no point in staying at Osborne Bioindustries.

But he had previously considered taking a leave of absence, not resigning.

After all, this summer job had been secured for him by Mrs. Snow, a kind woman who had always taken good care of him, and he didn't want her kindness to go to waste.

Now,he didn't even need to ask for leave.

The supervisor breathed a sigh of relief upon hearing Hawke's request, nodding.

"That's for sure. In fact, I just finished talking to Selina. I'm aware of this, after all. You and that guy..."

Hawke reminded the frowning supervisor.

  "Max."

"Yes, Max,"the supervisor's brows relaxed, and he sighed.

"This isn't your or Max's fault. I know that, but there's nothing I can do."

Hawke shook his head and smiled.

In reality, as Max had said, the Bio-Electricity Department's electricity is primarily used to supply the building's daily needs.

After all, how much electricity can those electric eels generate in a single day?

Not to mention so many labs and so many large, power-hungry pieces of equipment.

But there's always someone who's stupid.

To put it bluntly, this incident all started when a senior executive at Osborne thought the Bio-Electricity Department needed a bigger burden.

And now that something's happened, that executive refuses to take responsibility.

  Hmm.

Pretty bad, but it fits the image perfectly.

  It's that simple.

Hawke didn't linger in the supervisor's office for long.

He collected his $800 for the week and casually sauntered out of the Osborne BioIndustries building behind him.

  "Hawk, wait!"

Just as Hawke was about to cross the street to catch the subway, Gwen chased him out of the building.

Hawke turned and looked at Gwen.

  "Did Mrs. Snow call you?"

  "Yeah."

Gwen paused, her hands on her knees, and took a few breaths.

She had rushed downstairs just after Mrs. Snow's call, only to be told by the BioPower Department that Hawke was gone.

  But it wasn't all bad.

Gwen calmed her breath and looked at Hawke's expression. "Are you okay?"

  Hawke shrugged. "Pretty good."

He hadn't let Mrs. Snow down, successfully leaving Osborne BioIndustries and heading to Quantico.

And he'd even gotten a week's salary for free.

  He was delighted.

Hawke pondered this, looking at Gwen, who looked worried.

He grinned and said, "Don't worry, I'm really fine. My supervisor said I can still come here to work during winter break."

His supervisor had indeed said that.

He probably wouldn't come, but he didn't refuse.

  What if?

Don't overdo your work, don't say everything you want, always leave some room for improvement so we can meet again in the future.

  Hawke understood this principle.

Gwen, seeing the unfaithful expression on Hawke's face, confirmed that he was truly fine.

She nodded and asked, "So, what are your plans? After all, there's still over a month until school starts."

"Stay home and read. You know, with only a little over a month left, it's going to be hard to find a suitable summer job."

Hawke shrugged, then said, "Okay, go back now. I'm really fine."

Gwen nodded. "Okay, then, if you have time, let's go to the library and read together."

  Hawke was slightly taken aback.

Gwen once again didn't give Hawke a chance to speak. It seemed she had figured out the right way to communicate with him after forcing her phone into his hand.

After saying this, she turned, hands in her pockets, and reentered Osborn Bioindustry.

Hawke looked at Gwen, who was still smiling and waving at him in front of the building, and couldn't help but frown.

The next second,he turned and left.

  Business is important!

  Quantico!

  I'm fucking here.

Let go of my Garmanion! !
