Chapter 12 - Research Facility

"This very symbol, I've seen it somewhere. I saw it before I was arrested by the police. This symbol has something to do with me."

Nathan panicked, pointing at the sign carved on the wall.

Henry took a deep breath before speaking. "Sir, that symbol is not just an ordinary mark. It's tied to the very reason I saved you. This is the emblem of your father's life's work—Project Sky. And this very underground building was built for that purpose."

Nathan, who had never heard the name project sky before, stared at Henry with a raised brow.

"Project Sky?" he asked inwardly, then glanced around the room again.

"For now, I advise you to return to your room, it will be much better if we talk about it tomorrow. You're under stress and need some rest," Henry insisted.

Nathan nodded and went back to his room, though he had no choice, and apart from that, his mind was still unsettled about the symbol he had seen.

The next morning—or what seemed like morning, because they were still buried underground and couldn't differentiate between morning and night except using a precise timer..

Nathan woke up to Henry's gentle voice.

"Good morning, young lord Nathan," Henry said softly as he placed a tray of breakfast on the table close to Nathan's bed.

"oooh… it's surprising you made this, well thank you," Nathan replied quietly with a small smile.

After Nathan finished eating, Henry led him to another section of the underground to give him more explanation about what he had promised him yesterday.

This area was unlike the rest; it was filled only with computers. Not just desktops and laptops, but enormous glass screens that displayed advanced technology Nathan had never seen before.

And just like before, the same symbol was etched across each massive glass of holographic display.

Henry walked up to the enormous screen, tapped a sequence into his phone, and the monitor projected a map showing a location.

"This is our next target," Henry said the moment the map appeared.

"Our target?" Nathan shifted his gaze at him, confused as to what he meant.

"Yes, our target. If we are going to uncover and trace whoever was behind your family's misfortune, we must start by digging up the roots," Henry explained.

It was now Nathan understood what Henry said. He thought he was going to explain more about the symbol.

"So what are you suggesting? What's your plan?" Nathan asked.

Nathan needed revenge more than anything. If Henry was helping him get that revenge, then he would do anything to make sure he executed it.

"The location you see on this computer is the exact position of a man called Alaric. You know we can't get close to Leonard yet. The easiest way to strike him is by bringing down his men one by one as I had explained to you earlier. From them, we can get the intel we need to reach him directly."

"Who is Alaric? And how is he connected to the crime?" Nathan pressed.

"Alaric is one of Leonard's men. He's among those who covered up his dirty deeds. He's a police officer—and we're going to take him into custody and make him talk."

"Wait—so what you're saying is that we're going to kidnap a police officer?" Nathan asked, raising a brow. He hadn't expected that from Henry, kidnapping a police officer could worsen things.

"Yes, exactly. That officer is corrupt, and he's the key to getting what we want. Don't you want revenge?" Henry asked sharply.

Nathan nodded, gasping. "Of course I want revenge. And I promise to take down anyone responsible."

Henry smiled at Nathan's determination. "Then that's what we'll do. We'll kidnap the officer and force him to talk."

Nathan finally agreed with the plan, and together they headed out of the underground facility.

Some moments later, they reached the location marked on the map. It was a private residence, wealthy and heavily guarded with multiple security men with armed weapons.

Alaric had been so corrupt in his work that it had made him rich beyond measure. Having multiple guards around him like a mayor, meanwhile he's just a policeman. Though his rank is high, but a police officer in his status couldn't get that much money for the lifestyle he's currently living at.

"How are we going to get into this residence? It's massive," Nathan asked uneasily, after noticing the vast secured residence.

"We'll force our way through. We have one shot at this—if we fail now, we'll lose our chance to ever get hold of Alaric again," Henry explained.

"Okay… let's do this," Nathan replied, nodding in determination.

Both men stepped out of the car and moved closer on foot toward the gates. Guards were fully armed, and the moment Nathan spotted them, he flinched and hesitated.

"That man has a rifle! What we're doing is suicide—we could be killed!"

Nathan couldn't just walk himself into a kidnapped mission that his opponent has bullets that could pass through his skull like a melon. His body isn't bulletproof neither has he discovered how his powers works.

Henry smirked after seeing Nathan panicked self.

"You don't have to worry. I was in the special forces in the US army for years before signing in to be your father's special butler. I know exactly how to take down guards without them even realizing it, especially those who seem harmful."

"Special forces?" Nathan raised a brow, stunned. He hadn't expected Henry to be a soldier. Now he can see where his braveness and resilience had come from.

Everything was happening so suddenly. From the very first day Henry had found him to this very moment, every second Nathan spent with the man revealed another strange, startling truth about him.
