Chapter 11 - The Lap Was Something Else

"Meanwhile, as we lay low, trying to prevent Leonard—whose eyes are all over the city—from noticing us, why don't we make some research about Leonard, knowing more about him, and this would pave a Clearer way for us to locate the people who had helped him orchestrate the evil act against your father?"

Though Henry didn't want to go straight to the point and conclude that Leonard was the one behind Nathan's father's death, he preferred to do some digging first, and this diggings could lead to more darker sight that would make everything even more interesting.

Nathan nodded agreeing to Henry's suggestion.

"I will be grateful if you help me bring down those bastards."

He clenched his fist tightly.

Henry gave a calm smile. "Let's take things gradually. First of all, I'll show you your room. Tomorrow, we can continue focusing on the matter, as well begin strategizing. It's already getting late, and I know you have gone through a lot of stress today so you need some rest."

Nathan was taken to a room by Henry. After that, Henry bowed his head slightly and exited.

The room was luxurious and very large, leaving Nathan in awe, the classic display of the lights above the ceiling gave a luxury sensation. He kept wondering how something of such massive scale could be built underground.

The sight before him left him dumbfounded. Soon, he went over to the bed and sat down, but something felt off. He didn't fully trust Henry, nor the story he had told him.

"Why not go around the underground building?" Nathan thought. "Maybe I could learn more about this place, than learning from a story which I didn't fully trust if it's true."

Nathan waited for hours while lying on his bed. Eventually, he stood up, left the bed, and walked out the door. Henry was nowhere to be found as he had seen, but earlier Henry had given him a pass card that granted access to other areas of the underground basement.

Henry did it this way to prove to Nathan that he wasn't being kidnapped, and had the choice to leave anytime he wanted.

This gesture of trust by giving Nathan an access card was a way of Henry showing Nathan that he was safe. But Nathan wanted to use it to his own advantage so he could learn more about the place where he is currently at.

"With this card, I think I can get a glimpse of what this place is all about, either to stay or to run," he thought inwardly.

He walked through a passage made of marble-like material, and just ahead was Henry's door. Nathan leaned forward and tried to peep inside. He saw Henry drinking coffee and watching a movie.

That, at least, lessened some of his suspicion toward Henry; he thought Henry must have vanished out of the basement.

Nathan passed the room door Henry was in, cleanly unnoticed and exited through another that led to a different section of the underground building. This area looked more like a laboratory, filled with multiple experiments preserved in transparent tanks. But it was demarcated by a glass wall, and a door stood at the side, as a way to get into the main lap entrance.

"What the hell is this…" Nathan muttered in astonishment as he glared confusedly at the scene before him. He hadn't expected such a sight, and this left him stunned.

Nathan walked towards the secured locked door to the main lap. He paused for a while before swiping the card Henry had given to him, and just immediately, the scan was successful and he was granted access.

Creek!

The door pushed outward, revealing a part for Nathan to pass through, just after the access was granted.

Without hesitation, Nathan walked inside. Multiple computers lined inside the lab, glowing faintly in the dark.

As he observed, his gaze shifted to one of the tanks. What he saw inside made his stomach lurch.

"Fuck…"

He stumbled backward, his hand accidentally hitting a switch on the wall. At once, the electricity surged through the lab, and all the equipment came back to life. Engine sound crackling, and all the tanks immediately began blinking blue light.

"What…" Nathan's eyes darted around. He hadn't meant to tamper with anything he was to came across, especially things he had no idea about.

Just then, one of the computer screens flickered to life. On it appeared the symbol of a crescent moon—the same one Nathan had seen at the tech company before his arrest.

"This symbol… could it be connected to this building, and this entire facility in whole?" he murmured, confusion in his voice.

His eyes then caught something carved into the wall of the lap, the same crescent moon, scratched huge and deep into the surface.

"What… is this place really about?"

Nathan's mind spun. He couldn't believe how everything seemed tied to this place.

"If this symbol is here, then this lab could hold the answers—or even more of the strange images and videos I've seen before."

He walked over to the computer, which had fully booted. He searched through its files, but what he found wasn't what he was looking for. The videos were only experiment clips from the lab.

"Why can't I find what I'm looking for?" Nathan muttered, getting impatient.

And then, a voice called his name.

"Nathan…"

He flinched, looking up—and froze when he saw Henry standing there just staring at him from the dark, this freaked him out, almost thinking he was being targeted by a vampire.

"I've been meaning to tell you about this very lap before now," Henry said calmly.

He stepped forward and began walking towards Nathan.

"I figured you would eventually find out. I wanted the explanation to happen in the morning, when you woke up. But since you've discovered it already… I suppose now is the time to begin explaining, so you won't be confused, and think of something else."

Nathan raised a brow, after hearing Henry intro.
