Chapter 24 - Chapter 24 Naraku's Barrier

(To Kagura)

Sitting on the roof of Naraku's castle, Kagura was staring at the Waning Crescent Moon. Suddenly, she closes her eyes as she places her hand over her chest. Hearing the sounds of Demons roaring causes Kagura to look up to see a bunch of demons flying up into the sky.

"They've gone through the barrier..." Kagura trails off with a confused expression.

(To (Y/N) )

I watched as Inuyasha was on the ground, as if a Dog tracking a scent.

"What's the matter, Inuyasha? Isn't this the right direction?" Shippo asks as he was sitting on Kagome's bag that was sitting on her Bicycle. "Is he always tracking scents from the ground?" I wonder as I stare at him in confusion.

"Shut up! Stop yakking and let me concentrate." Inuyasha answers.

"Sniffing around on all fours won't get us any closer to Naraku's castle, will it?" Songo questions.

"I was wondering the same thing..." I trail off.

"Aw, damn it all." Inuyasha curses.

"Inuyasha, maybe your nose isn't working right now. Tonight is the first night, remember?" Shippo asks, causing Kagome to nod. "The first night, what does that mean?" I wonder as I look over at them.

"Right. Tonight's the night of the New Moon." Kagome answers, causing Songo and my eyes to widen.

"Night of the New Moon?" Songo and I chorus.

"That's right. The night of the New Moon is when Inuyasha loses his powers and becomes a mere mortal." Miroku informs, and my jaw drops.

"That's a thing?" I question, causing Kagome to turn to us.

"Inuyasha, let's not do anything rash tonight. Even if we do find Naraku's castle, you can't fight without your powers." Kagome responds as Inuyasha remains on the ground.

"We've made it this far. I ain't holding back now." Inuyasha insists, but I then begin to feel something coming from behind us. "I sense two sacred Jewel Shards heading this way..." I think as I turn around.

"Let's get real. We can't do anything hasty." Kagome states, but then Songo glances over at me.

"Is something wrong?" Songo asks, but before I could answer.

"Look! A cyclone!" Miroku answers as the Cyclone heads towards us, as well as the Sacred Jewel Shards.

"And it's coming this way." Songo declares, causing Miroku to push her back. "Shit!" I think, as I wasn't fast enough and was engulfed by the cyclone, I had to shut my eyes.

"Aah!" Inuyasha sounds out, causing me to open my eyes to see Koga's face above me.

"Wolf-boy?" I question.

"I'm surprised to see you traveling with this group," Koga responds as I look around to see he was holding me princess style in his arms. "I should have known when I sensed those two shards." I think as let out a sigh.

"Yeah, now let me down." I address him, causing him to slowly place me on the ground and turn to Kagome.

"Yo, Kagome. It's great to see you again." Koga greets, causing her to look over at him.

"Koga! It's you again!" Kagome chirps, causing me to look over and see that Inuyasha was spread out on the ground like a frog.

"Well, that's what you get for sniffing around on the ground." Songo points out. "Did Koga run Inuyasha over?" I wonder as Koga then turns him.

"Hey, mutt, you followed the scent around here, too, did ya?" Koga asks with a smirk.

"You mangy wolf," Inuyasha answers as he struggles to lift off the ground.

"I'll kill you!" Inuyasha bellows as he goes to draw his sword.

"Sit boy," Kagome demands, causing Inuyasha to be forced back down onto the ground. "Wow, harsh..." I think trying not to chuckle.

"Koga, did you come to find Naraku's castle, as well?" Miroku questions as he walks over to us.

"Yeah, I don't know why, but I'm picking up strong whiffs of Naraku's foul stench. That never happened before." Koga answers as he then glances over at me. "Does he think I know the reason?" I wonder as Koga and I stare at each other for a moment.

"That must mean..." Songo trails off.

"The barrier around Naraku's castle has weakened." Miroku specifies as Koga moves closer to me.

"Koga?" Kagome asks with a confused expression, but he doesn't look away from me.

"So, (Y/N) did you repay your debt to Naraku or did you finally come to your senses?" Koga questions, and I roll my eyes.

"If you really must know, Wolf-Boy, I was actually kicked out. Then out of nowhere, my memories came back." I responded, causing Koga to turn away from my gaze, but had what looked like a bit of relief showing on his face.

"Well, in any case, if I follow this scent, I'll find his castle." Koga insists as he then turns with his eyes closed.

"Don't worry, Kagome. I promise I'll kill Naraku this time." Koga promises as he then opens his eyes to see Shippo there.

"I don't think I'm your type." Shippo points out, as I see them hand in hand, causing me to almost laugh out loud.

"No, Inuyasha!" Kagome pleads as we all look over to see Kagome beside Inuyasha.

"Don't try to stop me. I'm going to settle this today, once and for all." Inuyasha states as he glares at Koga.

"Not if I can help it." Kagome declares, but Koga walks over to them with a confused expression.

"What's going on? Something's different about you." Koga made known as he then sniffs Inuyasha, who puts on an annoyed expression. "Definitely not weird..." I think as I let out a sigh.

"You don't smell like a mutt. Did you take a soak in the river or what?" Koga asks as Kagome and Inuyasha put on confused expressions.

"Hey! Don't get so close to my Kagome!" Koga warns, causing Inuyasha to wrap his arms around Kagome. "So there are love rivals for my cousin, huh?" I wonder as I watch Koga trying to pull Inuyasha away by his kimono.

"Let her go!" Koga demands.

"Take it elsewhere, guys." Kagome insists, and Koga then grabs one of Inuyasha's legs, causing me to chuckle.

"Real mature guys." I point out, causing everyone to look over at me.

"Hey, Koga. Wait up!" A familiar voice calls out.

"We've finally caught up with him." Another familiar voice rings out, causing me to look over to see 2 guys wearing wolf attire. "Oh, I remember them, they're Koga's underlings." I think as they were making their way towards us.

"I don't have time for this." Koga insists, but his voice was way closer than before, causing me to look over and see him staring down at me.

"W-what?" I question, causing him to grab my hands, which makes me narrow my eyes at him.

"Once I kill Naraku. I will personally deliver you his head, (Y/N)." Koga whispers, causing my eyes to widen, but before I could respond, he lets go and looks back at Kagome.

"Later, Kagome," Koga adds as a tornado begins to surround him, while he begins running. "Kill Naraku..." I think of staring at the tornado.

"Are you running away again?!" Inuyasha exclaims, while still on the ground.

"Naraku's head is mine!" Koga proclaims as he continues running.

"Please. Come on, Koga, slow down! Wait for us!" The Wolf Guys with white and black hair, named Hakkaku, call out as they finally make it over to us.

"Oh, hello, Kagome." The other Wolf Guy with the mohawk, named Ginta, greets, but then keeps on running.

"Oh. Hi, boys." Kagome says.

"Can't stay and chat." Ginta insists as he and the wolves pass us by.

"Damn that fleabag Koga." Inuyasha curses as he sits up off the ground.

"Do you think we should go after him?" Songo asks, looking over at Miroku.

"No, I think it's better not to do anything tonight," Miroku answers.

"That's the best choice of action." I nod, causing Inuyasha to stand up and glare at us.

"What, are you crazy? He's gonna show us up!" Inuyasha proclaims, causing me to roll my eyes.

"Calm yourself down, Inuyasha. Or would you rather have Naraku see you in your Human Form, as well? If he learns that you lose your powers some nights, your life will be in danger. You have to be extra careful around Naraku." Miroku advises, causing me to glance over to Kagome. "He's right. Naraku will use any weakness you have against you. I should know..." I think as I ball my hands into fists.

(To Kagura)

"Ugh. The air in this castle is so stifling." Kagura states as she walks down the hallway of the castle.

"All the vassals who were at this castle were exposed to Naraku's toxic miasma and died," Kagura mutters, but then stops with a gasp, causing her to look over.

"Why are you sneaking up from behind me like that, Kanna?" Kagura asks, but in response, Kanna's mirror begins to shine and reveals Koga in it, causing Kagura to put on a confused expression. Suddenly, Kagura bends down to Kanna.

"Kanna, tell me, does Naraku know about this?" Kagura asks.

"He doesn't. He's gone." Kanna answers, causing Kagura to look back down at the mirror.

"Kagura?" Kanna questions, causing Kagura to stand up.

"I'll go and kill him. There's no need to wait for Naraku's orders." Kagura responds.

"You'd better not, Kagura." Kanna insists, but Kagura puts on a determined expression.

"I despise Naraku's method of stooping to trickery. I'll kill for Jewel Shards. I need no schemes." Kagura made known as she looked over at Kanna.

"It's in Naraku's hands- both life and death." Kanna addresses.

"Hmm?" Kagura sounds, while knitting her brows.

"We are all merely Naraku's tools..." Kanna trails off.

"I couldn't care less." Kagura declares as she goes to turn away.

"Except for that girl, Naraku watches her constantly." Kanna points out, causing Kagura to look back over to see (Y/N) in Kanna's mirror.

"So that's it... Well, he's not here now." Kagura assures as she turns and walks away.

(To Koga)

"This is a strange fog." Hakkaku points out as some of the wolves were growling.

"I can't see a thing." Ginta insists.

"Damn! The smell is strongest right here. The castle has to be close by." Koga states, while looking around.

"Huh! Koga, up there!" Hakkaku bellows, causing Koga to look over at him.

"Hmm?" Koga sounds as he looks up to see a giant swarm of something in the sky.

"Skeletons with swords?" Koga asks as a blade of air rushes towards them, causing Koga to jump away, while his comrades run away. Suddenly jumping down to the ground, Kagura causes Koga to look over at her.

"Hello. It's been too long, Koga." Kagura greets with her fan in front of her face.

"Not you again." Koga addresses, while glaring at her, as the Skeletons step onto the ground.

"What's with those skeletons?" Ginta questions.

"They are the guards of the castle. They're countless in numbers." Kagura responds as she brings her fan down.

"Wind Sorceress Kagura. I haven't forgotten your despicable face- not for one minute. How could I? You're the one who killed my comrades. Prepare to die! It's payback time for all you did!" Koga proclaims as he rushes towards her.

"I missed you, too. I was so close to getting your Sacred Jewel Shards before. I'll get them this time for sure!" Kagura declares as she throws her hand that held her fan back with a smirk.

"Dance of the dead!" Kagura calls out, causing the Skeleton soldiers to rush towards Koga, who begins punching their heads.

"More tricks!" Koga made known as he kicks one of the skeletons coming up behind him.

"Dance of Blades!" Kagura bellows as she brings her fan down, causing blades of air to rush towards him.

"Not this time." Koga insists as he dodges every one of her attacks and jumps towards Kagura.

"Surprise!" Koga howls as he readies his fist in the air.

"Hmm." Kagura sounds with a grin as Koga brings his fist down, and a bunch of dust flies everywhere.

"Got her," Koga assures, but then sees something jump up.

"Huh?" Koga sounds as he then sees it was Kagura.

"Fool! I'll cripple you!" Kagura yells, causing Koga to glare up at her. However, Kagura shuts her fan while still in the air with a smirk.

"Dance of the Dragon!" Kagura calls out as a tornado begins to form around Koga, causing the skulls from the soldiers to fly around him.

"Now what?" Hakkaku asks.

"A whirlwind of bones, that's what!" Ginta answers, while Kagura lands on the ground with a chuckle. However, Koga was inside the tornado, crushing all the skulls he set his sights on.

"You can choose your own fate, Koga. You can let the Skeletons in the Whirlwind slice you to pieces, or you can leap out and be slain by me. Either way, suits me fine." Kagura informs.

"Koga's strong, but he doesn't stand a chance against that thing. What are we going to do now?" Hakkaku questions as they were hiding behind the rocks.

"Well, it's not like we're strong enough to help," Ginta responds as they watch the tornado continue to spin, causing Kagura to chuckle.

"Look at that wench, I think she's completely enjoying this." Ginta points out.

"If we could get that powerful fan of hers, maybe we'd have a chance of rescuing Koga," Hakkaku states.

"Yeah, you're right! Get up close and snatch it from her." Ginta declares, turning to Hakkaku.

"Who?" Hakkaku asks as he meets Ginta's gaze.

"You, of course," Ginta answers.

"Are you kidding me? She'll notice me before I get close, and I'll be hacked to bits." Hakkaku specifies.

"Then how are we going to fight Kagura and that wind? Hmm? Wait a minute. Yes, the wind! There is a way!" Ginta proclaims as he turns away and begins running.

"Ginta, stop acting foolish!" Hakkaku calls out as he rushes after him.

(To (Y/N) )

"Koga's actions are proof that Naraku's barrier has become weaker." Miroku insists as he, Songo, Shippo, and I were sitting inside the tiny shrine. "But, why has his barrier weakened? Naraku's barrier is usually really strong..." I think as I glance over to the door of the shrine.

"I think we should at least verify the exact location of the castle," Songo states, causing me to look back over to them.

"I agree with Songo." I declare with a nod.

"We can't take Inuyasha in the state he's in." Shippo points out, causing us all to look over at him.

"We won't because Miroku and I can go alone." Songo made known.

"And if Inuyasha objects to us leaving him behind, we'll have Kagome make him sit, then we can simply knock him out." Miroku specifies.

"Oh, not that method again." Shippo addresses causing me to sigh.

"I can't tell if it's because you're extreme or that you just like to knock dog-boy out..." I trail off.

(To Kagome)

"I keep telling you... Koga likes to be complimented, so I just thought if I flattered him, I could distract him from becoming curious about how you smelled." Kagome explains as she looks over at the black haired Inuyasha.

"Still, your eyes were all sparkly and stuff. You know, you get too friendly with that wild animal, Kagome." Inuyasha points out, causing Kagome's eyes to widen.

"I don't do that." Kagome counters.

"Yeah, you do." Inuyasha re-counters.

"Don't you start!" Kagome demands.

"I'm not starting anything!" Inuyasha proclaims as he inches back a bit.

"Inuyasha!" Ginta's voice rings out.

"I know that voice." Inuyasha insists.

"Kagome!" Hakkaku calls out.

"Oh, no. They're Koga's friends! Inuyasha, hide." Kagome instructs as she stands up.

"Huh?" Inuyasha sounds.

(To (Y/N) )

We all look over to see the shrine doors open.

"What's the matter?" Miroku asks as Kagome throws Inuyasha inside. "That probably hurt, but it's weird to see Inuyasha with black hair and brown eyes." I think as I stare down at him.

"The Wolf Demon Tribe has come back again," Kagome answers.

"We can't let them see him." Songo insists.

"Kagome! Kagome! Quickly! We need your help!" Ginta's voice rings out, causing Kagome and me to walk out of the shrine to see them rushing towards us.

(Time skip)

"What?! Koga and Kagura are fighting each other?" Kagome asks with wide eyes.

"You must have gotten severely close to the castle," I answer with a concerned expression.

"Yes, and things don't look good for Koga right now." Ginta insists, but then Inuyasha kicks open the doors to the shrine. "I figured he wasn't gonna keep himself scarce after hearing Kagura's name." I think as Ginta and Hakkaku point at Inuyasha with a scream, causing Inuyasha to punch both of them in the head.

"Oh, what are you doing?!" Songo exclaims.

"What an idiot." Shippo remarks.

"Listen up, you two. If you tell a soul about this, I'll kill you both." Inuyasha threatens.

"Got it. We won't." Hakkaku nods, causing me to slightly shake my head.

"That was uncalled for," I whisper.

"Inuyasha..." Kagome trails off.

"Well, he shut them up real good. So, shall we go?" Miroku questions, causing me to side-eye him. "I think you just like violence..." I think, letting out a sigh.

(To Kagura)

"Mmm, I can smell blood in the air. Go! Twist and turn harder." Kagura instructs, causing the wind to become more ravenous.

"What's the matter, Koga? Too scared to come out, are you? Or... Are you already dead?" Kagura asks as Koga continues to break the skulls inside the Whirlwind.

"Damn that Witch!" Koga curses as he receives several cuts all over his body.

"Maybe I'll let him out. If he's slashed into too many pieces, I'll have a hard time finding the Jewel Shards." Kagura points out as she closes her fan.

"No need to worry about that!" Koga bellows as he jumps out of the tornado.

"Huh? He's up there!" Kagura proclaims.

"You wench!" Koga shouts as he begins falling towards Kagura with his leg stretched out towards her.

"Well, you're pretty persistent, aren't you? But not for much longer." Kagura states as she opens her fan.

"You're dead, Kagura!" Koga yells, but Kagura then holds her fan out in front of her, causing the Skeleton army to rush towards Koga. Biting Koga all along his body, the Skeletons caused Koga to scream out in pain.

"I can't move!" Koga cries out.

"You fool! You can run and jump, but you can never escape my wind. Dance of Blades!" Kagura calls out with a sweep of her fan, causing her blades of wind to head straight towards Koga and hit both his legs. Quickly, looking over Koga sees his Jewel Shards are no longer in his legs, but he falls to the ground, and his Jewel Shards land several feet away from him on the ground as well.

"Now, then..." Kagura trails off as she picks up his Jewel Shards from the ground.

"I have the two shards from your legs. You're just an ordinary Demon now. It's time to finish you off." Kagura declares as she begins walking towards him.

"Damn you." Koga curses, causing Kagura to chuckle.

"Kagura!" Songo's voice rings out, causing Kagura to look over and see Hiraikotsu heading towards her. Quickly, Kagura points her fan in the direction of it, causing the Skeleton Soldiers to move in front of her. The Hiraikotsu hits the Skeletons, causing moans to sound out as the weapon makes its way back to Songo.

"Your life has been spared, Koga," Kagura informs as she grabs one of the feathers from her hair and makes her escape.

"She got away." Miroku points out, causing Songo to look over and see Koga on the ground.

"Miroku, look at Koga." Songo insists, causing Miroku to look over at him as well.

"Koga!" Ginta calls out as he and Hakkaku rush towards him.

"Huh?" Hakkaku sounds as he sees Koga's legs.

"Look! Your legs!" Ginta proclaims.

"She took the Sacred Jewel Shards from both your legs." Hakkaku made known.

"Koga!" Kagome shouts as she rushes over to him with her first aid, causing me to walk over to them. "They're right, the glow I used to see from his legs is gone, and I no longer sense their presence." I think as I stare at Koga's legs.

"You're badly wounded. Let me see what I can do." Kagome addresses, causing me to trail up Koga's body to see that it was covered in wounds.

"She really did a number on you..." I trailed off, causing Koga to look up at me, but her looked as if he was in shock.

"Leave him alone, Kagome. He's going to die anyway." Inuyasha necessitated causing Koga to finally snap out of it and glare over at him.

"You mutt. Huh? Inuyasha?" Koga questions as he sees the black haired Inuyasha.

"Huh. You know, you're pathetic, Koga- getting all cut up like that by Kagura." Inuyasha responds.

"Look who's talking. You're nothing but a weak mortal." Koga jibes, causing me to turn away. "Yep, which is why he should have just stayed in hiding..." I think as I roll my eyes.

"I heard that... That Half-Demons fear for their lives. I also heard that when they're in the Mortal States, they never appear before an enemy. You're pretty gutsy, you know. Daring to come around me when you look like that, Inuyasha." Koga informs, causing Inuyasha to smirk. "These two really are irritating when they fight." I think with a scoff.

"Hmm. Yeah, you're right. So now that you know my secret, Koga..." Inuyasha trails off as he puts his hand on his sword, causing Koga to jump up.

"You wanna fight!?" Koga exclaims, causing Inuyasha to draw his sword, but it didn't transform like usual.

"I'm going to finish you off here and now," Inuyasha states, causing me to walk in between them.

"(Y/N)-"

"Instead of you both fighting like morons, we should be going to get back those Jewel Shards from Kagura." I declare, while interrupting both Inuyasha and Koga, who were both staring at me. However, before either one could respond, Koga groans, while falling to the ground on one knee.

"Koga!" Kagome calls out.

"Kagome, go ahead and take care of his injuries, please." I request, causing her to nod as she takes a bottle from the first aid kit.

"This is an ointment that I brought back from my country. It works really well on cuts." Kagome explains as she rubs some on his knee.

"Thanks very much, you two." Koga thanks as he looks down at Kagome. "Did Naraku weaken his barrier on purpose just to steal Koga's Jewel Shards, or is there some other reason?" I wonder as I glare up at the sky in the direction I feel the shards going.

(To Kagura)

Sitting beside a lake looking up at the stairs, Kagura lets out a sigh.

"What a relief. Indeed..." Kagura trails off as she holds out her hand to reveal the 2 Jewel Shards she stole from Koga. After deep thought, Kagura shakes her head with a troubled expression, but then lets out a sigh as she lies on the grass. Looking up into the sky, Kagura sees a shooting star, making her eyes widen.

"Hmm? A shooting star! There is someone who can help. Yes!" Kagura chirps as she throws the Shards into the air.

"He can help me." Kagura insists as the Shards fall back into her hands.

(To Naraku)

(Naraku's POV)

"Kagura, you have escaped." I think it caused me to open my eyes as they glowed.

"She better not do anything foolish..." I trail off, while glancing around to see the numerous Demon parts surrounding me.

(3rd POV)

(To Sesshomaru)

"It sparkled! Hee, hee. A star just sparkled! Did you see, Lord Sesshomaru? Uh, hello?" Jaken asks, but Sesshomaru doesn't respond to him and keeps walking. Deep in thought, Jaken glares back at Rin, who was sleeping peacefully on A-Un's back.

"Ah!" Jake sounds out as he runs into the back of Sesshomaru's leg, causing Jaken to stop and see that he was stopped in front of him.

"Lord Sesshomaru!" Jaken calls out.

"His scent is in the air," Sesshomaru states, causing Jaken to look around and then sniff the air.

"You're right! It's the same scent (Y/N) had on her. The scent of that Naraku fellow, who was so rude to you, Lord Sesshomaru... Is he nearby?" Jaken questions, but then a strong gust of wind blows past them.

"What's going on?! Whoa!" Jake sounds out as Rin blows off A-Un's back and onto the ground. Suddenly, Kagura lands in front of Sesshomaru and looks up at him.

"Yo." Kagura greets, causing Jaken to look over at her.

"Yo, yourself." Jaken insists.

"Sesshomaru, I assume you came here following Naraku's scent, as well." Kagura made known, causing Jaken to rush to Sesshomaru's side.

"Lord Sesshomaru, this wench is Naraku's incarnation!" Jake proclaims as Rin crawls over to him, half asleep.

"Wind Sorceress Kagura, I recall." Sesshomaru declares, causing her to smile.

"So... You remember me. I am very flattered." Kagura flirts causing Sesshomaru to place his hand on the hilt of his sword.

"Take your hand from your sword. I didn't come to fight, Sesshomaru. I have a proposition you might be interested in." Kagura specifies as Sesshomaru glares at her.

"Proposition?" Sesshomaru asks causing Kagura to hold out her hand to reveal the Sacred Jewel Shards.

"You know what these are, Sesshomaru. I'll give you these Sacred Jewel Shards. In return, I want you to kill Naraku." Kagura answers.

"What?!" Jake exclaims.

"Free me. Release me from his grasp." Kagura requests.
