The moment Miranda exited the building, her phone started ringing. Glancing at the screen, Nolan's name flashed boldly. She accepted the call immediately.
"Hey. I'm fine," she assured him, continuing her brisk pace toward the bus stop where they had arranged to meet.
"Stay exactly where you are. I'm coming to get you," Nolan commanded, his voice leaving no room for negotiation.
"Absolutely not. We'll meet at the bus stop as planned." Miranda stood her ground, unwilling to bend to his demands.
"Miranda..." The frustration was evident in his tone. "He followed you out of the building."
"Knowing you, Nolan, you've already got Ben tracking him to make sure he's not following me. So I'm perfectly safe," she reasoned, calling his bluff. "If it makes you feel better, stay on the line while I walk."
His silence regarding Ben confirmed her suspicion.
"Fine," he conceded reluctantly, "but I don't like this one bit."
