Chapter 2 - Zombies.

CHAPTER 2

At that moment, I was proud of myself for slapping that guy. It was that, or the end of the four of us. The man I had slapped, he had light grey skin, a lot of veins everywhere. His pupils weren't even in his eyes. He had blood all over his mouth and his teeth stained with it. And as he was walking, he couldn't even walk properly. He would lump one leg, and walk towards us slowly.

The smell of blood reeked from my bag, as it had some on it now. I threw it at the guy, and backed up, few steps. I looked at Nicole in horror, as they were still frozen in place, intently watching me.

"I think we should run. There's more of them. . . coming." I spoke, in a nervous tone, gulping hard while looking at Nicole.

Nicole nodded, silently started walking back. Although. . Christian bumped into someone. Me, Nicole and Ruby turned our heads around slowly. . and heard a type of groan. It didn't seem like the creature thing- or whatever its called had a sense of sight.

It seemed completely blind. But. . they could definitely hear. . . Because just as it groaned, a few more of the creature guys turned a corner and started walking faster towards us. . . we were frozen.

But, I didn't want to die yet, plus I haven't even had my own skateboard yet. Not to mention, it's my birthday.

I turned around, speaking.

"I think it's safe to say we should run."

I spoke, mostly to Nicole. Nicole indeed did not hesitate to obey, running towards a nearby supply-ish shop that looked pretty abandoned for a shop that was crowded a few hours ago. .

I ran in after Nicole, but since the other two followed, I let them inside. We all managed to get inside safely after running fast to the shop. Once we all got in, I locked the door shut, putting a blanket over the door to prevent others from seeing us from outside. We all caught our breath, and no one said a word.

A moment passed, before Ruby cut through the silence.

"Does anyone know what those creature guys are?? Not to mention why was that guy biting another person!?!"

Ruby said in a slight shaky voice, even scared.

This was a situation which was definitely taken straight out of a thriller movie.

Nicole and Christian shook their heads.

"I don't think they were very sane at all, they had grey skin and bloody mouths. Not to say, no pupils, at all."

I pointed out, peaking out the door a bit.

As soon as I checked, there were some human creatures outside, so I immediately closed it very silently.

"Just call them zombies or something instead of 'creature guys'. It's easier." Spoke Christian. He no longer had his usual annoying tone, just an actual humanly neutral tone. He also sounded quite shook.

". . . Alright, we're eventually going to have to move from here. I think we should grab a weapon or two, because those guys definitely attack. ."

I said, trying to be as cautious as I could. I'm pretty sure they'd attack us if we made ourselves heard, even by accident.

I went around roaming through the aisles, trying to find an aisle that had weapons of something I could use as one. After a bit, I was met with an aisle which had knives, pocket knives and some other sharp weapons.. It was the kitchen section so I guess that made sense.

After not too long, me, Ruby, Nicole and Christian met back at the main area with the weapons in hand.

"Ok. . . all of you have something?. ." I asked, making sure everyone was reading to leave, since the mall now reeked horribly due to all the blood, and smelled just like blood. Literally.

"I got enough weapons. . . I guess." Replied Nicole.

"Yeah, me too." Chimed in Ruby.

"Me as well." Christian said reluctantly, looking away and avoiding my eyes.

"Alright so ready to leave, right? I'll open the door on the count of three.. ok?" I asked, making sure everyone agreed. And also, making sure they would be behind me.

"Okay. ." Ruby replied. I nodded, then started counting quietly, but loud enough so they all could hear.

"1. . . 2. . . 3!" I said three slightly raising my voice. I opened the door wide, but to my surprise.. saw nothing.

"Completely empty?..." I muttered to myself, cautiously looking around and taking another step forward. The others followed behind me, as we all quietly made our way down to the top floor.

And I won't lie, by the time all this had taken place, it had already passed 6PM, and the sun was down. It's completely silent, the stillness relatively eerie. All of our steps were silent, but the slight soft squeaks from our shoes every now and then were audible.

"We should probably leave this building.. it's the logical thing to do." Stated Nicole.

But I was slightly against it, just only for our safety.

"But there's no zombies here, and I'm pretty sure outside there'd be a lot more. If it's infectious, which it probably is, it's dangerous. ."

I commented, ensuring our safety. It'd most likely be a mess outside if it's already reached the city outside.

"She's right. . . there could be a lot of more zombies out there."

Ruby sided with me. She had a slight nervous expression, but she spoke quietly, trying not to attract attention.

I could tell she cared for all our safety, and so did I.

"Sorry man. . . I'm going to have to side with shitty face this time."

Christian spoke up, also agreeing with me. We all cared for our safety, and surely didn't want to get bitten by those zombies.

"Would've never guessed, you actually agreed. . ." I mumbled under my breath. His expression turned into pure bore which made me stifle a laugh, but I kept the noise minimum.

"Stop looking at me, dumbass. ."

I said, looking at him, while trying to restrain a small smirk.

While our conversation continued, we reached the top of the mall, as it didn't take so long. We reached the rooftop, checking out the city from there. There were ambulance sounds coming from everywhere. But it was odd.

"How come when we came up here we instantly heard sirens? When we were down in the building it was pin drop silent. ." I stated.

"That's true.. but I think it was just more suppressed. Or maybe the buildings sound proof? Or maybe we're going deaf?" I swear Nicole had the most ridiculous assumptions at times.

I sighed, then a few seconds of silence went by. . but then all the shiny bright lights in the city went out in the blink of an eye.

The sound of it was eerie, but despite the fact that the power went out, it was so silent, my breathing was completely audible. Along with the others, as well. But other than that, we'd need a flashlight if we wanted to go anywhere.

"Does anyone have a flashlight?" Ruby asked, as I was going to as well, but instead I decided to check around.

 "I don't have one. . ." Christian stated.

"Not me either. ." I added. Nicole was aggressively rummaging through his backpack, something he only had, and found one.

"Ah. . I have it." Nicole commented, turning it on.

But it was blindingly bright, so he almost instantly turned it off. But then again, he turned it back on. . as he pointed it towards the city. But as we observed whatever that was going on, in the city we noticed something strange.

Then out of absolutely nowhere, we heard a loud screech coming from the woods that happened to catch the zombies attention with ease. . .
