"ALRIGHT PEOPLE! ARE YOU READY FOR THE MAIN EVENT?!" Present Mic's voice blasted through the stadium speakers, a wave of pure energy. "THE FIRST TWO ROUNDS ARE OVER! IT'S TIME FOR THE REAL DEAL! A SERIES OF ONE-ON-ONE, NO-HOLDING-BACK BATTLES! GET READY FOR SOME ACTION!"
"Just try not to be too loud this time," Aizawa's monotone voice deadpanned beside him.
"FIRST UP, WE HAVE TWO POWERHOUSES FROM THE HERO COURSE! HE DOMINATED THE PRELIMINARIES, THE MAN WHOSE POWER IS SO OVERWHELMING WE HAD TO GIVE HIM A FREE PASS! GIVE IT UP FOR AKAZAAAAAA!"
The crowd roared, a mix of cheers and boos still echoing from his student pledge. In the stands, the orphanage kids were on their feet, screaming his name, while Kenji chuckled into his hand.
"AND HIS OPPONENT! HE'S GOT A QUIRK THAT'S PERFECT FOR CAPTURING VILLAINS AND LOOKS SUPER COOL DOING IT! FROM CLASS 1-A, HANTA SERO!"
At the entrance gate, Akaza stood calmly as Rumi gave him one last look. "You better not lose before you get to me," she said, her tone a mix of a threat and a promise.
Akaza's serious expression melted away. He smirked, wrapping an arm around her waist and pulling her close with dramatic flair. He lowered his voice, adopting the arrogant tone of a young master from an old drama. "You woman! You dare question the strength of this young master?"
Rumi's eyes widened for a second before she burst out laughing, immediately playing along. She gave a mock bow. "Forgive this one for her ignorance, Young Master. This one is still green behind her ears."
They held their serious expressions for another moment before breaking into shared laughter.
"ENTERING THE ARENA… AKAZAAAAA!"
He let her go, his playful demeanor vanishing as he stepped into the light. "Good luck," Rumi whispered genuinely.
He walked onto the concrete stage where Sero was already waiting, stretching his arms.
"Hey, man," Sero said with a nervous but friendly grin. "No hard feelings, okay? But don't hold back on me."
"I wouldn't dream of it," Akaza replied, his voice completely serious. He bent his knees slightly and slammed his foot onto the ground.
CRACK.
A complex, snowflake-like pattern materialized on the stage beneath him. Destructive Death: Compass Needle.
Sero's friendly expression froze, replaced by sheer panic. "Whoa, whoa, chill, I was joking!" he yelped, waving his hands frantically. "You don't have to get all serious, it was just some friendly trash ta--"
"BEGIN!"
The word cut through Sero's panicked explanation. Wasting no time, he shot both his arms forward, launching two streams of thick tape aimed at wrapping Akaza up and pulling him out of bounds.
"AND SERO MAKES THE FIRST MOVE, A SMART AND FAST ATTEMPT TO IMMOBILIZE AKAZA!"
Akaza didn't move from his spot. As the tape flew towards him, he simply raised his hands, his movements fluid and calm, like a stream flowing around a rock. He met the incoming tape not with force, but with open palms, redirecting their paths. With a grace that seemed impossible, he twisted his body, guiding Sero's own quirk to wrap around Sero himself.
"WHAT'S THIS?! AKAZA DIDN'T EVEN ATTACK! HE'S USING SERO'S OWN TAPE AGAINST HIM!"
"He came up with an interesting fighting style," Aizawa muttered, a rare hint of astonishment in his voice. "He's redirecting the attack's force."
Before Sero could process being entangled in his own tape, Akaza took a single, deliberate step forward. He lightly tapped Sero's chest with his index and middle fingers. A barely visible shockwave pulsed from the point of contact. Sero's eyes went wide, and he was thrown backward as if hit by a cannonball, landing hard outside the ring.
"Sero is out of bounds! Akaza is the winner!" Midnight declared. The entire fight had lasted less than ten seconds.
"AND THAT'S IT! IN AN UTTERLY DOMINANT DISPLAY OF SKILL AND POWER, AKAZA WINS THE FIRST MATCH!"
The rest of the first round unfolded with similar intensity.
Eijiro Kirishima vs. Tetsutetsu Tetsutetsu
"NEXT UP, A BATTLE OF HARD-HEADS! KIRISHIMA VERSUS TETSUTETSU!"
What followed was less a match of skill and more a brutal slugfest. The two boys, both with hardening quirks, stood in the center of the ring and traded blows. Fists met hardened flesh with the sound of clanging metal. Neither gave an inch, their determination written on their faces. They battered each other relentlessly until, with one final, simultaneous punch, both fighters collapsed, knocked out cold.
"It's a draw!" Midnight announced. "We'll settle this with a simple arm-wrestling match after they've recovered!"
"TALK ABOUT A GRUDGE MATCH!" Mic yelled. "TWO GUYS WITH NEAR-IDENTICAL QUIRKS JUST BEAT EACH OTHER SENSELESS! THAT'S PURE FIGHTING SPIRIT!"
"It's inefficient," Aizawa said. "But you can't deny their guts."
Tenya Iida vs. Mezo Shoji
Iida tried to use his speed, but Shoji's Dupli-Arms created a defensive wall of limbs, with eyes on his hands tracking Iida's every move. Iida would burst forward with Recipro Burst, only for Shoji to anticipate his path and block him. The fight became a tactical game of cat and mouse, but Iida's engines had a time limit. After a prolonged exchange, his engines stalled, and in that brief moment of vulnerability, Shoji seized his chance, grabbing Iida with multiple arms and depositing him gently outside the ring.
"AND SHOJI'S PATIENCE PAYS OFF! A STRATEGIC VICTORY USING HIS QUIRK'S SURVEILLANCE CAPABILITIES TO PERFECTION!"
"Iida's Recipro has a clear time limit. Shoji exploited it. A logical conclusion," Aizawa stated.
"A QUICK UPDATE, FOLKS!" Present Mic's voice cut in. "THE TIE-BREAKER BETWEEN KIRISHIMA AND TETSUTETSU IS OVER! AFTER A GRUELING ARM-WRESTLING MATCH, THE WINNER IS… EIJIRO KIRISHIMA! WHAT A DISPLAY OF MANLINESS!"
Mina Ashido vs. Shoto Todoroki
"LET THE NEXT MATCH… BEGIN!"
Before Mina could even slide forward on her acid, Shoto raised his right hand. A colossal glacier erupted from the stage, flash-freezing Mina in place and creating an ice mountain that loomed over the stadium.
"Ashido is immobilized! Todoroki wins!"
"WHOA! THAT'S SOME SERIOUS POWER! TODOROKI ENDS IT IN AN INSTANT!" Mic screamed.
Rumi Usagiyama vs. Denki Kaminari
Kaminari grinned. "Sorry about this, Usagiyama!" He unleashed his quirk, shouting, "Indiscriminate Shock, 1.3 Million Volts!" A massive dome of electricity crackled outwards.
"KAMINARI UNLEASHES HIS SIGNATURE MOVE! THERE'S NOWHERE TO RUN!"
But Rumi was already gone. Using Soru, she vanished just as the electricity was released. She reappeared behind Kaminari, who was now in his stupefied, thumbs-up state. She didn't hesitate. A low sweep kick knocked his feet out from under him, and as he fell, she followed up with a powerful kick to his back that sent him sliding out of the ring.
"Kaminari is out of bounds! Usagiyama wins!"
"SHE'S TOO FAST! KAMINARI'S LIGHTNING NEVER STOOD A CHANCE! USAGIYAMA IS A WHITE LIGHTNING BOLT OF HER OWN!"
"A bad matchup for Kaminari. He can't hit what he can't see," Aizawa noted.
Fumikage Tokoyami vs. Ibara Shiozaki
This was a battle of extensions. Dark Shadow lunged forward, a being of pure darkness, only to be met by a wall of thorny vines from Ibara. Dark Shadow slashed and tore, but Ibara's vines were relentless, growing back and spreading like a living net. In the bright stadium sunlight, Dark Shadow was weaker, and Ibara's quirk was at its strongest. Eventually, she managed to ensnare both the shadow creature and a struggling Tokoyami, securing her victory.
"AND THE THORNY HERO FROM CLASS 1-B TAKES THE WIN! DARK SHADOW WAS STRONG, BUT THOSE VINES WERE EVEN STRONGER!"
Katsuki Bakugo vs. Ochaco Uraraka
This match was unexpectedly brutal. Uraraka charged in again and again, trying to touch Bakugo to use her Zero Gravity. Bakugo, refusing to underestimate her, met every charge with a powerful explosion, keeping her at bay. The crowd began to boo him for being too harsh, but Aizawa quickly shut them down on the commentary.
"The idiot who said he's toying with her, is he a pro? How many years has he been a pro? If you're saying that with a straight face, then there's no point in you watching anymore, so go home!" he stated coldly.
Uraraka revealed her trump card: a meteor shower of debris she had been floating above them the entire match. It was a brilliant plan, but Bakugo met it with a single, massive explosion that cleared the sky. The shockwave knocked Uraraka off her feet, and she collapsed, unable to continue. Bakugo won, but with a clear look of respect for his opponent.
Hitoshi Shinso vs. Izuku Midoriya
"AND FOR OUR FINAL MATCH OF THE FIRST ROUND, THE MYSTERIOUS SHINSO FROM GENERAL STUDIES VERSUS THE COMEBACK KID, MIDORIYA!"
The match began, and Shinso immediately started taunting Midoriya. Midoriya, angered, shouted back and froze. His eyes went blank. He had fallen for the brainwashing.
"Turn around," Shinso commanded, "and walk out of bounds."
Midoriya obeyed, turning and walking stiffly towards the white line. The crowd watched in stunned silence. He was just steps away from disqualification. But then, just as his foot was about to cross the line, a massive gust of wind erupted from his fingers, the backlash of One For All breaking the brainwashing. Midoriya, now in control, charged. Shinso, with no combat training, was easily overpowered and pushed out of the ring.
"AND THAT'S A WRAP ON THE FIRST ROUND, FOLKS!" Present Mic announced. "OUR QUARTER-FINALISTS ARE DECIDED! WE'LL BE BACK AFTER A SHORT BREAK FOR MORE EXPLOSIVE ACTION!"
"AND HERE ARE THE QUARTER-FINAL MATCHUPS YOU'VE ALL BEEN WAITING FOR!" The main screen lit up, revealing the next round's bracket.
Akaza vs. Eijiro Kirishima
Shoto Todoroki vs. Izuku Midoriya
Ibara Shiozaki vs. Rumi Usagiyama
Katsuki Bakugo vs. Mezo Shoji
"THINGS ARE HEATING UP, PEOPLE! DON'T YOU DARE GO ANYWHERE!"
