Behind the silk curtains of the consort's quarters, a figure stirred on the bed, then his eyes flickered open. His long lashes batted a little, then he smiled, seeing the faces before him.
Prince Liang Chen watched Eunuch Shen pace around, preparing the necessary items. His outfit was chosen, a warm bath prepared, and some freshly sliced apples served to be eaten before breakfast.
Liang Chen smiled. Growing up, it was a ritual, and the apple cider was said to help with belly fat; hence, he was obligated to have it every morning before breakfast.
At one point, he had begun hating it, but never brought it to the notice of his attendant. After enjoying the freedom of choosing and deciding over his meals in Yelan, seeing the perfectly sliced apples made his stomach churn as he struggled to wear a smile.
"Good morning, Liang'er," Eunuch Shen whispered warmly.
Liang Chen nodded as he tried sitting up, but his body felt weak, as though he had spent the night working.
