The Empress stormed into her quarters. Ji Fengye followed as he quickly dropped Feiyue down. She wasted no time dashing to her room and putting on something more appropriate.
"What is the meaning of this?" the Empress roared. "How could you let such happen under your watch?" she hissed.
Ji Fengye stood quietly. There was no tangible excuse to lessen the effects of his actions.
"I thought you were wiser than this," the Empress added, shaking her head.
"Wiser?" Ji Fengye snapped. "So are you implying Ji Mingyaun is better than me?"
"Isn't it obvious?" the Empress shot back. "You got married. Your room was locked, with standby guards and maids, yet no one saw your wife leave. So tell me, Fengye, what did you do?" Her voice was calm but stern.
"N… nothing, Mother," Ji Fengye stammered.
"Is that so?" she asked, and he nodded without delay.
"I am the victim here, so shouldn't Mother be questioning Feiyue and not me?" Ji Fengye snorted. "She was the one caught on another man's bed."
