The night was too cold, Lance felt unusually uncomfortable. His neck was really in pain. He rose to find himself in the sofa, Aidan lying down. He then wondered what happened to their room and then guessed that his sister had chose to stay there for a night. He scratched his neck remembering how he collapsed. He then patted his head.
" What matters is that I'm fine now." He murmured. He calmly put the blanket off him and went to drink water. He sighed and then went back to the couch but he wasn't just sleeping. He felt too strange. He then stood up,walked to the door intending to just go for a walk outside.
He then heard a whisper near his ear, "Where are you going?" He slowly turned and saw Aidan.
" You scared me, shit!"
" That's not what I asked."
" I'm going to stretch my beautiful legs."
" Let's go together."
" No." Lance said as he went out. Aidan followed him.
" Let's talk about the way you acted back then ." Aidan said and held his head repeating the way Lance was acting. Lance smacked his head." You crazy fool."
Aidan whisperedin the mood to tease him,"So you been taking drugs in secret? Behind my back. Damn we could've just shared. Tell me. I won't tell your mother."
" Shut up."
" Look. The stars are bright. Cheering me on to keep bugging you. I can't disappoint them for sure."
" Well, the thing is, it was a headache."
" Since when have you started to scream like the way you did because of the headache. We chopped off your head and put it back so that you can be fine."
Lance glanced at him and said sarcastically,
" You're truly thoughtfull. I'm more than touched." There was a moment of silence.
" I really missed looking up in the sky like this." Lance said calmly.
Aidan smiled and looked up in the sky too. The stars were bright, the sky calm. It gave a positive feeling that things were alright.
" Don't you think that star is smiling at me? Just a way to show it's love for me." Aidan said pointing at the brightest star in the sky. Lance shook his head and laughed.
" It's not only smiling but also dancing for only you."
Aidan playfully said," You got a keen sight." Aidan yawned with sleepy eyes.
"The stars are beautiful,the sky is lonely,er....do you remember that poem?" Aidan asked.
" No."
" I thought you are the one with the brightest mind."
" I just didn't care much about poems when we studied that one."
" It's not like your poor mind would have memorized it. Sigh, let's go back." He started walking and Lance followed him. Both were silent but Aidan was more sleepy while Lance seemed wide awake as he had already slept as many hours as he could.
After reaching in the apartment, Aidan lied down and was fast asleep while he was trying to force himself into sleeping. He actually was able to do so after sometime of wandering around in his head.
In the morning
The morning seemed good. The day was bright and gave Lance the hopes that the day would go perfectly fine.
" Let's be optimistic." He uttered looking at his sister and Aidan who were standing in front of him. He nodded his head and then they all went outside. Akila was staring at Lance so he turned to her with a questioning look.
" Call mama,she is worried."
" Yes."
After parting ways with the two and reaching where he worked, he almost fainted. The house was burnt down! Other workers were standing in front of it with sadness written on their face,while others seemed expressionless as Magda stood in front of them with her usually calmness as if explaining the situation. Lance immediately checked his email. And yeah, Magda had already informed him about the incident. He approached others not knowing if he could greet or not. He decided not to ,after struggling too much with it.
" So, I will just pay you your salary and let's pray for each other's well being and luck." Magda said with a smile. Something Lance didn't imagine could be on her. As he continued to look at her, he found that Aidan was right when he called her attractive. Indeed she was and her warm character added a charm on that attractiveness. He shook that off his mind as he thought it wasn't worth thinking off in the kind of situation he was in. And knowing how unlucky he was, he didn't even work for a month. He sighed mentally over and over until he felt a gaze at him. He turned only to see Raven staring at him from the other side, her arms crossed on her chest with an undefined expression as Lynx stood to her side. He stared back. Raven didn't look away but continued looking at him.
* This girl really don't know I have fought many eye battles.* He thought as he continued to look at her until someone nughed him with her elbow . He turned to find out it was Lys.
"What's up?" She asked
" The sky." Was the reply. Lys sighed
" You seemed to be in a staring competition."
Lance mentally sighed, he expected this day to be one of his good days but, sigh. He had no luck on this beautiful day.
" And you made me lose." He told Lys in a low voice. Lys rolled her eyes and looked in front.
" Today is not gonna be a good day." She said.
Lance had chose to be positive, so he said, "We are still in the morning. Who knows what luck someone might have after we leave this place?"
After a while , Magda gave everyone their salary. Lance was suprised that he got the same salary as others. Magda just smiled at him. And he couldn't bring himself to deny taking the money. Magda was originally a rich kid, so money was no problem to her and that was one of the reason the workers instantly took the money. There were no cops at the site because they didn't care. Their government care about such things. If you wanted your case to be investigated, you could just hire them or you could just bring the criminal to the station with evidence and they could be arrested immediately. Justice existed for those who were too determined to achieve it.That's how their world worked. The cops were only concerned about the prisoners. Some workers promised to help her find justice. All she did was nod with a smile. She clearly didn't like to speak. Lynx was only staring at her the whole time. Magda didn't seem to mind. Raven pinched her and she gave her a ' why did you do that?' look. Raven asked her with her eyes,' why are you looking at her like that?' Lynx replied with her eyes' my eyes are for looking not for decoration.'
Raven pursed her lips and then looked aside to avoid being annoyed. She spotted Lance smiling to himself carelessing the money envelope. Lys sat next to him looking at his hand's movement.
" You really like money." Lance looked at her shaking his head.
" Who doesn't like money?"
" Me!" Lance raised one eyebrow at Lys's answer and extended his hand towards the her for her to put on her salary. She didn't put on her money.
Lance scoffed," Money is good. This day is quite not bad. Let me hope I will luckily get to find another job soon."
Lys smiled," Continue hoping."
