Dear reader,
We all have our secrets, don't we? But do we ever stop to notice how blurry the line is between a secret and a lie?
Relationships are delicate so, a single misstep can erase years of trust. I know, tricky ungrateful things.
After MG woke up from a rare, peaceful nap, she was feeling strangely lighter. Maybe even a little bit wiser.
Maybe it's the reason they are called power naps?
Gravel was still sprawled beside her, face serene. It took everything in MG not to lean over and kiss that calm right off her lips. I was glad she hadn't.
She then stretched slowly, thinking. Maybe it was time to pause the eviction plan. Just for a while. Or make that a Plan B.
First, she needed to try other options... Legal ones. She could find a way to make money. She just needed an opportunity and she'd start there.
But, she doesn't know that sometimes in life even a crack of an opportunity could be impossible to find. And I'm not paid enough to disclose information.
While downstairs was calm and hopeful. Upstairs? Not so much.
Sasha sat at her desk, fingers frozen above her drawing pad. Her mind kept spiraling, not for her own safety though.
No, she was worried about the others. She didn't trust the people who had seen what they weren't supposed to.
Even though knowledge is powerful but, leverage on someone in that house meant a good life to you. So, she was afraid someone was going to use that to hurt them.
And her first bet? Yusra.
Yes, Yusra, ever the locked box. But, she wasn't scared for anyone. It was another stupid morning to her.
She still liked the house, but it annoyed her that Emma had frozen up on Nicole.
Don't hide her like she's some kind of shame, she thought bitterly. Not like my Dad with my Mom.
Then there was Lily.
Lily was on her bed, eyes darting around her ceiling like it had answers. She kept replaying the scene, again and again, but came up blank. Love in their line of work always brings death.
What if bad people found out? What if Emma's brothers did? Her parents?
What if it hadn't been real at all?
Was Emma forced?
Was it serious?
Even if Lily spent the entire day and used all the Cartel's resources to find a way out of this mes, it would've been useless.
Because Emma had already made her choice. And what are choices if we don't stick to them?
But, unknown to all the witnesses on the floor... Emma was breaking up with Nicole. Throwing her out to be precise.
Now, now, dear reader don't judge her too quickly. You don't come from a family that plays with knives like they're compliments. Ask Lily what I meant by that. I'm just here for the girls.
"Emma, I know I screwed up, but it was an accident! Please…"
Nicole's voice trembled, heart completely exposed. She knelt at Emma's feet, hands clutching hers gently. Desperately.
"I've lost too much. I can't lose you too, Emma."
Emma looked away, exhausted. "Nicole… I love you. I loved you even before we became friends in first year."
"Then tell me how to fix this," Nicole whispered.
Emma's voice cracked, soft but firm:
"There's nothing to fix. But if we keep this going, someone will break. And I really hope it's me."
Lily had seen them. That changed everything! But, Emma couldn't tell Nicole that since that would mean an explanation and she'd rather lose her now,
Where everything happening is seemingly her fault than in hatred later on from disappointment and betrayal.
Nicole didn't have a home anymore, and Emma wanted to be her anchor. The reason? Simple.
Because Emma was the reason Nicole's family was gone.
Yes, that heavy. Yes, that dangerous.
If you want to know how fair the world is, just look out your window on your bad days.
Everything looks normal, even while your world is falling apart.
Sonia knows that. That's why she has asked me to help make sense of things in here. She's a selfless little thing. But devotion? It's not always a gift. Sometimes it's a cage.
Don't take my word for it.
Until next time, if you're still with me that is...
Yours in doubts,
Mother Nature.
