Chapter 11 - New upgrades and the first sub-quest

Was it just a coincidence or something planned?

He also couldn't say but the most obvious answer was it being pure coincidence.

While Dante hated attributing anything to fate there was no other explanation for this. Looking at Jason who was talking non stop about his father he wondered what his expression would be it he told him about his future self.

Wait if I tell him it wouldn't change the future right?

Suddenly he felt an urge to do so but before he could put his thoughts into motion the system quickly stopped him.

[I'll advise you not to even do that as it might cause unexpected variables to occur. Trying to play with time is not the wisest move.]

"Hey I wasn't planning to do it anyway."

While he said so his heart thought otherwise. However the fear of really doing something really stupid made him discard that thought.

Furthermore, another idea was already brewing in his mind.

"It's not like there aren't benefits to be earned from this. Right now I'm the only one that knows his value and what he'll turn into in the future. Building a relationship with him isn't bad in fact if I can rope him along with me that'll be great. Just imagine the resources I can get! Haha Dante you're too smart!"

An excited glint flashed through Dante's eyes causing Jason to shiver subconsciously as his clenched his butt.

 Don't tell me…..

Immediately he backed away while warily at Dante causing the latter to snap out of his fantasy. Oblivious to Jason's fears Dante moved closer to him before placing a palm on his shoulder.

"Bro Jason from now on were brothers! Tell me of anyone that bullies you alright? I'm off to relax a bit!"

Watching Dante as he skipped away to one side of the stall Jason wondered if he was hallucinating. Wasn't this the same person that was aggressive earlier even threatening to feed him to zombies. How did his behaviour change so fast?

Wait it must be a trick all a trick! This was probably his way of making him lose his guard. Humph! He had already seen through his dirty trick there was no way he was falling for that.

Unbeknowst to Dante, Jason's impression of him was not really bright. Even if he knew he wasn't going to mind as he was busy looking at something on his interface currently.

"System is this the new upgrade?"

 [Yes!]

"But it's looks the same as previous."

Looking at the 'new' system interface he wondered why there wasn't a change in the design. It somehow reminded him of about a tech company hundreds of years ago that made the same product without a change in design only to still charge premium price.

[Champion the system changes are more than mere appearances. The system is now fully functional for apocalypse survival. New panels have been added to aid your use in the apocalypse. Would you like to view them now?]

 "Ugh…yes I guess."

"Oh.. now that's new. What are the functions of these new tabs?"

[You already know the functions of the system analysis. The dimensional design suite is a separate space isolated from reality where you can create all your designs. The dimensional storage space is where you can keep stuff you have that isn't equipment or gotten from the system. It's independent of the system and can be accessed at any time.]

Listening to the system's explanation, he quickly went through the new additions and his breath nearly hitched.

While the system described the two new aspects blandly like they weren't important he was was immediately able to recognize their importance. In fact it wasn't wrong to say they were super cheats in a cheat!

If he wasn't wrong the dimensional design suite was similar to a design software used by most engineers except for the fact that he could also use it to actualize his designs real time. It had a look similar to a high end workshop with everything he needed to create a piece of equipment or design. If he had this when he was creating the power armour and the Resonant blade he was sure they would be even better!

Furthermore if he wasn't aware, he would have thought his physical body was there if not for the fact that it taxes both his mental strength and cost gear points to use. Doing a rough estimate he could probably stay there for a full day before he felt tired!

 This was insane!

The Dimensional storage space was just like it's name suggested. A spatial storage space. He was aware of them since they were very common in the apocalypse later on after a scientist had discovered how to create them from some special materials. However, the space inside them were very small with most at a mere cubic meter while also being super expensive. Only those powerful enough or working for a stronghold could own one.

His I ventory was somewhat of a storage space although it only kept stuff from the system like potions and blueprints. He had tried keeping food and other items but it didn't work. He was already having an headache thinking of a way to store his things in the future since this wasn't when the storage ring was created.

Now that he had a storage space though all that worry vanished. Furthermore, his space was exceptionally huge measuring an astonishing ten cubic meters! He could also expand it though it would cost gear points!

Another point blackhole but he didn't mind…who told him to have a great system.

Looking through the interface there were other minor changes like the fact that he could now see his level which was currently one. To level up he simply had to throw in five gear points with an additional one for each level up till he reached level fifty where he would undergo the first class advancement. For a while he was tempted to add points as he hated the scrap engineer title but eventually rationality took over.

He wouldn't even be able to reach the class advancement before his points ran out!

There was also the points the zombies gave him around five per zombie.

Overall the system upgrade made him satisfied, in fact he was motivated to hunt more zombies since they were also a source of points although he couldn't do that right now as he still had to come up with a strategy.

[Champion, the first sub-quest has been unlocked. You can check it now]

 "Huh…?"

Quickly opening the system panel he scrolled down to the bottom of the panel where the Quest used to be. It was no longer faded out and just under it a small pop up window was there.

[ Sub-quest: As the last Champion, you can't save the universe of your home planet is destroyed. Ensure Earth survives t

he apocalypse in a year's time.]

"You've got to be kidding me right?"
