Chapter 3 - A death wish

A few weeks after the fight, Lao Zhan was released from the hospital. He gave an order for me to be kidnapped, insisting they were not allowed to rest until I was delivered. They followed me for days, trying to find a weakness to use against me. One day, when I decided to go out, they trailed me to a restaurant and bribed the waiter to drug my food.

The drug kicked in while I was in the parking lot. I started feeling dizzy and eventually fainted. When I woke up, I found myself in a basement, trying to make sense of what was happening. Suddenly, Lao Zhan walked in laughing.

"Ha ha ha ha! I should have known it was you. I mean, no one is dumb enough to mess with me like you are," I said with a creepy smile.

"You know, if I were you, I'd wipe that smile off your face. Who knows? I might end up dead the next second," he snapped angrily.

"Seems like the beating wasn't enough to fix that broken brain of yours," I said with an annoying smirk.

"You b***h, let's see if you..." (drrrrng drrrrng drrrrng)

"This better be very important," he said, annoyed.

"Sir, there's been a break-in at the warehouse, and a fire broke out," his subordinate reported fearfully.

"What! Who's the culprit? Was the damage bad?" he demanded, furious.

"Yes, sir. The Hexagonal gang is responsible, and the entire warehouse is down," the subordinate answered, voice breaking.

"Damn Hexagonal gang! Manage the situation. I'll be there in 15 minutes." He hung up.

"If she dares to move, kill her," he ordered, exiting the basement.

He hurried to the warehouse, only to find ashes remaining. It was the first time his subordinates saw him scared. The warehouse contained some of the most valuable treasures of the Dracula Empire in Beijing, and the only way to make up for the loss was with his head.

While Lao Zhan feared for his life, Wen Qin was on her way to his house to pay a visit. As soon as she arrived, she noticed the guards acting suspiciously—whenever she moved, they followed her.

"I've had enough of this. Are you going to tell me who your boss got to kidnap, or do I have to force it out of you?" she said, pretending to be calm.

They took her to the basement—only to find me sitting on the guards, who were beaten to a pulp.

"Ling Ling, what are you doing here?" she asked in shock.

"Mmmmm, let me see what I'm doing. Oh right, that stupid boss of theirs had them drug me and lock me in the basement to torture me before killing me—which is impossible," I said angrily.

Just by the tone, Wen Qin knew Lao Zhan was in danger. If she didn't calm me down, it wouldn't end with just killing him.

A few minutes later, Lao Zhan walked in with his PA. He didn't focus on who was in the living room, but as they neared the study room, he thought he saw two people sitting there. He turned around to check if his mind was playing tricks on him—and was shocked to find a lovely surprise waiting.

His mom was feeding me his favorite cake while watching some series in his house. For a moment, he felt like yelling at them, but he held himself back.

Something hit his mind, and he tried to sneak away before hell broke loose—but unfortunately, Wen Qin caught him.

"And where the hell do you think you're going? Get your ass here!" she said angrily.

"Awww! Mom, you're here? I didn't see you there. And may I know who this beautiful lady is you're sitting with?" he said, pretending not to know.

"Too late—drop the act before I drop the shoe on your handsome face," she said, annoyed.

Lao Zhan sat close to his mom, thinking if he acted pitiful, he'd be forgiven—but no, not this time. Wen Qin wasn't letting him off because he had crossed a line. She pulled him by his ear before he could even justify himself.

"I let my eyes off you just for a second, and you kidnap your baby sister's friend? Are you out of your mind? How can you put such an innocent, good girl through all that? Are you even my child? Because I don't believe my cute baby boy would do such a thing," she said, disappointed.

"Ummm! Aunt, I should get going. I left so much work undone, so please excuse me," I said as I got up and left for my house.

I arrived home and was about to sit down when Xiao Zha informed me about the warehouse being robbed and burned down. At first, I was infuriated—but when I heard the name of the person responsible, a creepy smile crossed my face, giving Xiao Zha the creeps.
