Chap 9
It was Jimin.
"Hi..." I waved weakly, my eyes glued to the ground.
"You're late," he said calmly. "Hop on unless you want detention."
Yeah. I was very late.
He pulled off his helmet and handed it to me.
I hesitated, then took it and put it on.
I climbed onto the motorcycle.
"Hold tight," he said.
...Hold tight?
I might be poor, but I wasn't scared of bikes.I'd been riding them my whole life.
The engine roared, and we took off.
We reached the school area and chaos was everywhere.
Students were running.
Some sneaking through the back.
Some climbing walls.
And all of them were rich.
Why go through all this stress when they could just bribe a teacher?
"Mr. Kim Ku is different," Jimin said suddenly.
"He doesn't take bribes."
I looked at him.
...Did he just read my mind?
He stopped the bike behind the school.
No gate. Just a tall wall.
Students were already there, quietly throwing their bags over it.
"This Kim Ku guy is scary," I muttered.
"Even the rich are scared of him."
I got down and handed Jimin the helmet.
"Thanks," I said softly.
He just nodded. "Hm."
I looked at the wall.
All boys were jumping easily.
No girls. Probably they used the front gate.
If I was alone... I'd never make it.
"Throw your bag first," Jimin said.
I hesitated.
What if it gets dirty? What if it tears? I can't afford a new one...
Still, I threw it.
"Hey! You there!" a teacher shouted from far away.
"Mr. Kim Ku is coming!" someone yelled.
Oh God.
I should've just gone through the front gate and accepted detention.
"Jump," Jimin said.
"I can't," I whispered.
He sighed... then crouched in front of me.
"Step on me."
"...What?"
"Use me. I'll boost you."
My heart skipped.
He was offering his shoulder.
Like it was nothing.
Before I could think too much, I stepped onto him.
His hands held my waist firmly.
"Now jump."
