Chapter 9 - Hatsu

One week ago, Satoru and Tsunade faced each other in a remote forest.

"Hurry up and show me this Hatsu you were yapping about all week," Tsunade said, folding her arms and watching him with interest. Even though she looked down on Nen, she still acknowledged its ability to create unpredictable abilities.

"So impatient," Satoru smiled and didn't take it to heart. He was in a good mood. After weeks of agonized thought, he finally managed to create his Hatsu... sort of.

He took a kunai and started explaining. "I created two Hatsu. I named the first Coordinate Seal, and it's I'm sure you're familiar with."

He threw the kunai toward her, and suddenly teleported just as it was two meters away from her.

"That's..." Tsunade's eyes widened. "Flying Thunder God?!"

"Yeah," Satoru nodded and showed her the special mark engraved on the kunai. "This is the first ability. It allows me to leave a special mark to teleport to as long as I touch a solid object for a second."

"Hmm, pretty good," Tsunade took the kunai and inspected it. "Can you mark people and take objects with you when you teleport, or is it just a cheap copy of my second grandfather's jutsu?"

"That jutsu had been my obsession for years, so of course, I copied it," Satoru declared without shame. "The number of marks I can make depends on my Nen reserve. The only problem is that I have to use touch to leave a mark as a Nen restriction, and Nen users could see it with Gyo if I wished to hide it."

"Pretty strict restrictions," Tsunade frowned. "If the enemy could see your mark, you won't be able to launch a surprise attack."

"Everyone knew that Lord Second could teleport to the kunai he threw, yet he managed to sneak attack many Shinobi," Satoru laughed. "It's impossible to track all marks in high-intensity battles, so there's no need to worry."

"Indeed," Tsunade nodded thoughtfully. "You said that this is only the first ability. So, what about the second?"

"Oh, dear. For that, you have to carefully watch me," Satoru said.

Tsunade's eyes twitched, but she quickly shifted her attention to his actions.

Satoru put a hand behind his back and Tsunade suddenly felt a something touching her shoulder.

It was a hand emerging from a small dark portal.

"Is this your second ability? Creating portals." Tsunade looked at Satoru to find him shoving his arm in similar dark portal.

"Pretty cool right. This Hatsu allow me to open portals to teleport. The only restriction I put was not being able to use any other nen ability while portals still opened."

Even though the vow seem severe, it wasn't fatal one to someone like him who could use other types of energy.

The portals wouldn't just allow him to teleport into long distances, but could also act like ultimate defense.

"So that's how it is," Tsunade nodded thoughtfully. "It's an interesting ability."

Different usage methods flashed through her mind, and she couldn't help but feel impressed. Such an ability would be a bane for close combat Shinobi.

"Not only that," Satoru continued. "I could also merge my two Hatsu to leave a portal mark to teleport to, no matter what the distance. I could also..."

Satoru was still mid-explaining when Tsunade punched through the portal. Her fist passed and Satoru quickly crossed his arms before getting launched into the air, slamming into the tree.

"Damnit!" Satoru looked at his trembling hands and cursed. "Are you crazy? What the hell are you doing?"

"Hmm, it looks like you can't control what pass through the portal. And it seems you can't close it as long as something still passing through it," Tsunade ignored his glare and analyzed the flaws. "So, if multiple enemies attacked your portals at once, you'll be quiet passive."

"I could still use shadow clone to keep them busy while I close the portals." Satoru shrugged.

Just like she said. Those two points were indeed weakness, but were still in the acceptable range compared to the pros.

Besides, Satoru was still thinking about the vows he should put. Naturally, he wouldn't be stupid enough to put a death vow like Kurapika.

"Should I sacrifice En to strengthen the Hatsu?" he thought.

Just like Tsunade said, a strong enemy could indeed use the loophole in his ability.

He needed to make appropriate vows to strengthen it to the point that even Netero wouldn't be able to penetrate it.

From the start, Satoru set Netero as the standard imaginary enemy to create a Hatsu to fight against him.

He was too fast to counter with normal means. Only by slowing him down or misdirecting his attacks would Satoru have a chance against him. And that was why he created the portal Hatsu, as it allowed him to freely control the directions of the enemy attacks.

"Couldn't you create these abilities with Ninjutsu?" Tsunade's voice pulled him out of his thoughts.

"Impossible," Satoru replied. "I'm not a genius like Lord Second to create whatever jutsu I want. Especially when it's related to space."

Satoru didn't feel embarrassed to acknowledge his shortcomings. While requiring many restrictions, using Nen to create a desired ability was much easier than inventing it using Ninjutsu.

"So, now that you created your Hatsu, can we finally leave?" Tsunade walked toward him.

"That bored, huh?" Satoru asked.

"Of course, it's boring," Tsunade waved her hand dismissively. "We gathered all the necessary information. And I'm no longer interested in easy money. Didn't you say you'll show me a magical place, better than anything in our home?"

She was referring to Greed Island that he kept mentioning to her.

"Hmm, you have a fair point," Satoru thought. They would stay in this world for a year at most. So, there was no need to wait for the plot to progress. Just get the valuable items and destroy any mafia that stood in their way.

"It looks like York will get quite bloody," Satoru said.

Satoru looked at her. "We'll leave next week. I want to test my Hatsu with a worthy opponent and see its flaws."

Tsunade looked at him and smiled. "Alright, but I'll be choosing your final opponent."

Satoru was familiar with her sly smile, and knew she must be planning something. But he didn't care. He just wanted to test his Hatsu, and there weren't any dangerous opponents in the tower.

But when he stood in front of Hisoka the following week, he cursed Tsunade inwardly.

"That hag," he thought. He knew she was doing it on purpose, as she expressed her dislike for Hisoka more than once but had no interest in fighting him, so she sent him instead.

Satoru wasn't afraid of Hisoka, but he found him troublesome. He didn't want to be stalked by this apple farmer pervert.

"Or should I just forfeit?"
