Chapter 3 - Skip chapter (word count)

Satoru felt a sinking sensation before finding himself standing in a hidden alley next to a trash dumpster.

"It looks like we've arrived in a modern world."

He could tell from the building structures that matched his previous life.

Satoru smiled, relieved that they hadn't ended up in a wasteland or medieval time. Honestly, he was sick and tired of living in the Naruto world. So, when the portal item appeared in the system, he immediately locked it up, despite Tsunade's protests.

He knew this day would come, and he'd finally leave that cursed world behind. His only trouble was convincing Tsunade to come with him, but now she had done it voluntarily.

"What are you spacing out for?" Tsunade's voice pulled him out of his thoughts.

"We need to figure out what kind of world we ended up in," Satoru replied, noticing the curiosity in her eyes as she inspected the weirdly shaped buildings.

Tsunade nodded. "We also need to identify the danger level and see where we stand."

Both of them agreed not to use their abilities to avoid drawing attention until they gathered sufficient intel.

As they left the alley, Satoru saw a group of four people distributing flyers to passersby and noticed that most of the receivers were muscular men.

Curious, he approached the group with Tsunade. "Excuse me, can I have one?" Satoru noticed the man's scrutinizing gaze before handing him a flyer.

"Are you interested in participating in the Heaven Arena, sir?" the man asked, briefly glancing at Tsunade before addressing Satoru, which made him snicker.

Obviously, the man thought Tsunade was just a vase and didn't bother to give her a flyer.

Tsunade didn't seem bothered and looked curiously at the passing cars. It would take her time to adapt to modern living, but Satoru wasn't worried about her. A shinobi's greatest asset was their ability to adapt to sudden changes in their mission.

"What's this?" Satoru looked at the flyer and noticed an invitation to participate in the Heaven Arena duel.

"You must be new here," the man said, seemingly unbothered by Satoru's ignorance. "The Heaven Arena is a tower where martial artists fight to climb and earn money with each win. The higher the floor you reach, the more generous the rewards..."

"Wait a minute," Satoru hastily stopped the man as something clicked in his mind, and he asked hesitantly, "Are Hunter Association members eligible to participate?"

"Are you a Hunter, sir?" The man looked surprised before addressing Satoru more respectfully. "Yes, sir. Anyone can climb the tower, but there's special treatment for Hunters. They can directly start from the 200th floor..."

Satoru didn't listen to the rest of the explanation as memories flashed through his mind, causing him to realize what kind of world they were in.

"Hunter x Hunter, huh?" he thought. "A bit tricky but not a dangerous world. And there are quite a few items we could exchange for in the system."

After realizing they weren't in danger, Satoru relaxed and called out to Tsunade. "Hey, Tsunade, I've found us a place to stay for the night."

"Hmm, indeed. The tower sounds interesting, but we still need to gather more information," Tsunade replied, having listened to the exchange.

"You don't have to worry too much. There are easier ways to gather information," Satoru said, waving his hand and following the directions he received from the flyer man.

"What easier way?" Tsunade asked.

"You'll see eventually," Satoru replied.

At first, Satoru wanted to use a computer, but once he realized what kind of world he was in, he didn't bother. Even though he had forgotten most of his otaku memories, he still remembered the general outline of the story—a kid with daddy issues searching for his father, who went missing after buying milk.

Satoru nodded with a smile at his perfect memory. After taking a few turns, they finally reached a huge tower that pierced the clouds.

"Amazing, right?" Satoru grinned at Tsunade's surprised expression but received a punch on the ribs instead.

"Don't hide your shock and act like an expert here," Tsunade said, leaving him behind and following the flock of people to the entrance.

"Tsk. I don't understand why fans liked such a violent woman." Satoru rubbed his ribs and followed her inside.

They quickly reached the registration desk where the clerks distributed registration forms. "Please fill out this form truthfully," said the clerk, handing them a sheet.

"It looks like the universal language skill we purchased was worth it," Tsunade said as she filled out her form.

"Told you it would be handy someday," Satoru replied, relieved that he was foresighted and forced her to purchase the skill before it got refreshed. Otherwise, they would have wasted time learning new languages every time they crossed worlds.

They quickly filled out their forms, leaving a few personal information fields empty, and handed them back.

"Thank you. Tsunade and Satoru, your registration numbers are 4297 and 4298. Please remember your numbers and wait in the locker room until you're called," the clerk said.

They nodded and stepped into the locker room. Satoru couldn't help but look around curiously—this was his first time in a setting similar to an underground fighting arena. However, their unique shinobi attire caught the attention of nearly everyone present.

"Hey, look at this! A lost lamb dressed like a ninja. Skinny twig like you should just bet money on me instead of humiliating yourself," a muscular man mocked, laughing loudly.

Tsunade frowned as a few casted lewd gazes toward her, but she didn't bother to respond.

"I never thought I'd see this scene in my life," Satoru dramatically covered his mouth. "A bunch of dogs harassing Lady Tsunade."

Tsunade clicked her tongue but didn't start a fuss over a few glances. Maybe because her milkers weren't as big as they are years from now.

Satoru shook his head. If that perv Jiraiya was here, he would have surely jumped and defended her honor, but Satoru wasn't interested, and nor was Tsunade. A bunch of pests were only worth a glance.

"What did you say, twig? Come here, and I'll teach you a lesson!" the muscular man threatened.

Before the confrontation could escalate, the broadcast interrupted them: "Will competitors 4297 and 3990 please report to Arena 7. Competitors 4297 and 3990 to Arena 7."

"Will competitors 4298 and 3991 please report to Arena 10. Competitors 4298 and 3991 to Arena 10."

"What a pity," Tsunade sighed. "It looks like we won't be facing each other."

"Hey, hey, what are you sighing for?" Satoru pointed at her. "Don't tell me you want to beat me up."

Satoru had no intention of facing her and would have withdrawn if they matched. It wasn't that he was afraid of her; he just didn't want to waste his efforts on meaningless things.

"So, how should we take this fight?" Tsunade asked as they headed to the arena.

"Well, they're just weaklings, so there's no need to use ninjutsu. Just knock them out with one punch so we can climb faster," Satoru replied, remembering that the referee would judge their level based on their performance. The faster they finished their opponents, the higher evaluation they would receive.
