Chapter 27 - Chapter -27: Eyes That Start to Notice

By the third day, things were no longer invisible.

They were just....unspoken.

Christopher sat with Leo and Evan near the back steps during break. The sir was light---jokes ,half-finished snacks, Evan rambling about some stupid bet---but Leo kept watching him.

Not openly .

Not accusingly.

Just ...noticing.

"You've been skipping the courtyard lately, " Leo said casually.

Christopher didn't look up ."Too noisy. "

Evan scoffed. "Since when do you hate noise?"

Christopher shrugged. "Since always. "

Leo didn't push.He never did.

But something tightened in his chest.

Across the campus, Jason waited outside Zia's classroom.

Senior badge. Confident stance.

Used to being seen.

When Zia came out,he smiled wide."finally. I thought you forgot me ."

"Sorry ,"She said ."class ran late ."

Jason walked beside her."You've been ....busy lately. "

Zia hummed ."Everyone is."

Jason stopped. "That's not what I meant. "

Jason turned to him."Then say what you mean."

Jason hesitated.

Then laughed it off ."Nothing. Forget it."

But as they walked again, his eyes followed something else .

Christopher.

Zia didn't notice.

Sofee noticed everything.

The distance.

The pauses.

The way Zia's attention drifted---even when her body stayed present.

During lunch, sofee leaned closer. "You're acting different."

Zia sipped her juice. "Am I ?"

"You don't talk about Jason like before. "

Zia looked at her calmly. "People don't stay the same."

Sofee smiled--but it didn't reach her eyes.

"True .but secrets have a way of showing themselves. "

Zia met her gaze .firm ."only if you're looking for them."

That evening, Christopher found a note in his bag.

Not Zia's handwriting.

Leo's.

You don't have to explain anything.

Just don't disappear on me.

Christopher read it twice.

Then folded it carefully and put ut back.

Late at night ,Zia opened her diary.

No messages.

No plans.

Just space.

She wrote one line:

Silence isn't distance. Sometimes it's protection.

She closed the diary.

Somewhere else in the same city,Christopher stood by his window, thinking the same thing--without words. And unknowingly....

Too many eyes had started to notice.
