Chapter 28 - Chapter-28 :where No One looks

The storeroom was never meant to feel like this.

Dusty shelves .Old sports equipment. A Faint smell of chalk and forgotten things.

And yet---

It held the kind of silence that only existed when the world didn't know.

Zia closed the door carefully behind her.

Christopher was already there.

Leaning against a shelf, hands in his pockets, school uniform slightly untucked---like he'd stopped pretending to care five minutes ago .

"You'r late ," he said.

She smiled. "You waited. "

"That's different. "

They stood there for a moment, not too close.

Not too far.

The kind of space that vibrated.

"People are watching, "Zia said quietly.

Christopher nodded. "I know."

"Sofee especially."

"I know that too."

Zia looked at him ."Then why are me here?"

Christopher finally met her eyes.

"Because this,"he said ,gesturing softly between them," is the only place where I don't have to explain myself. "

Her breath slowed.

Silence settled again---but this time it was heavy.

Zia took a step closer.

Then another.

Christopher didn't move.

"You always stop,"She whispered. "Like you're afraid of crossing something. "

"I'm, "he admitted. "Because once I do ...I won't know how to go back."

Zia's fingers curled into his shirt lightly.

"Then don't go back."

She leaned in first.

Not rushed.

Not dramatic.

Just certain.

Her lips brushed his ---soft,brief,almost questioned.

Christopher froze for half a second.

Then his hand came up,steady at her waist.

He kissed her back.

Deeper.slower.like he'd been holding that moment in for far too long.

When they finally pulled apart ,their foreheads rested together.

"This stays here,"Christopher said."between these walls."

Zia nodded. "Until the end."

He smiled faintly. "You always say things like you already know the ending. "

"Maybe I do ."

She slipped a folded note into his hand before stepping away.

He opened it only after she left.

Some feelings are safest when they're hidden. But that doesn't make them small.

Christopher folded the note carefully and put it in his pocket --right where his heartbeat was.

Outside,the bell rang.

The world resumed.

But the storeroom stayed quiet.

Holding a secret no one else would touch.
