"What are you doing, Koa?" I murmured, fear tightening in my chest as his gaze shifted back to Lucien.
My heartbeat quickened even more than it already had. The realization settled heavily on me that there was already obvious tension between them, and everything would only worsen the moment Lucien found out I was Koa's mate. He would treat me even more poorly than he already did.
No, I didn't want that. Not for someone like Koa. I could not rely on Koa to protect me.
