Chapter 32 - Chapter 32

In a strange, alien world, filled with anomalous gravitational fields and devastated landscapes, a large row of biomechanical constructs stood underneath a fleshy 'throat'.

Within said constructs, strange roars and noises resounded as the tall, spindly creatures that looked like insects yet stood 12 feet tall, worked on various interfaces and terminals, maintaining the internal systems of the cages that held their weapons.

Their chittering resounded across the large domain that would serve as the forward operating base of these long-lived species of colonizers.

One of these creatures that would one day come to be known as the Precursors stepped forward and initiated the programming sequence, activating the internal mechanisms of these cages.

Instantly, the roars from within these cages intensified with pained squeals and screams as neural interface devices plunged into the skulls of the 'pets'.

Through this neural interface, the Precursors programmed these bioweapons of theirs for their next assignment. Just like they had done before to the original inhabitants of this world, and to those from another world before that, and someone else even before that.

The colossal creatures that would come to be known as the 'Kaiju' quietened down as their animalistic behaviour subsided. Instead, a strange intelligence born out of programming and instincts took shape in their minds as a new goal branded itself into their very neurons.

To exterminate every living thing on the planet that they would be sent to.

Watching this transformation in real time, the Precursors felt vindicated. Knowing that they would finally get revenge for the setback they encountered the last time tried to invade their target planet millions of years ago.

Watching the rift in the 'throat' above their base, the lead Precursor could not help but chitter in glee, ready to have a rematch with that strange white reptilian creature that froze their rift solid back then while it was sleeping.

In fact, this was one of the reasons why they made sure to open the rift at the bottom of the sea so that they would not have that kind of bad luck again. They even went so far as to mask the signature of their rift so that it would not attract the attention of these strange creatures on the other side before they were ready.

First, they will send the little ones to finish off the local intelligent species. The real threat to their plans.

Then, they will send out exterminators to get rid of the strange giant creatures of their target world.

After that, they will send in their engineering units and mould the world to their liking. And then, they will finally move on to a new world rich in resources.

Soon, the first of a long line of biomechanical cages opened up, revealing a colossal creature that was three hundred feet tall, yet was extremely light for its size. It's colossal axe-head-like skull designed specifically to cut through infrastructure and cause utter destruction to any sapient species.

Its thick hide was designed to withstand nearly all kinds of conventional kinetic weapons except for the truly dangerous ones like magnetically propelled kinetic slugs.

However, the Precursors knew that this would not matter much since they had already managed to tap into the local network of the sapient creatures and learned that they did not have such weaponry yet.

Watching the colossal being swim up into the throat thanks to the gravitational anomaly of the planet near their base, the Precursors could already imagine the victorious future awaiting them.

London. 2014.

Stacker Pentecost, Commander of the British Navy, smiled as he saw the Id on his phone.

"Hey, Luna. How's the vacation treating you?"

"Oh, more of the same. At least these yanks know how to party, that's for sure."

Stacker chuckled at his sister's words as he relaxed on his couch.

Luna Pentecost was sent to the USA by the Royal Air Force as a 'mandatory vacation' to get some r&r. But Stacker knew his government better than they imagined.

This 'vacation' was probably more of a secret mission, or something that was sensitive in nature, thus requiring this secrecy.

"How's Tam doing?"

"Pretty well, actually. Between you and me, I think she prefers the men here than back home."

"Heh, can't blame her. Have you seen how bloody feminine the guys have become these days?"

"Yeah, the yanks call them sissies for a reason."

The siblings chuckled at the joke and devolved into innate talks which involved all sorts of things, like the taste of their best friend Tamsin Sevier, or how Luna was enjoying her stay in the states, or other such things.

However, things suddenly took a turn for the worse when alarms rang out from Luna's side, sending Stacker into a rigid posture as his training took over.

"What's going on? A drill?"

"Doesn't look like a drill, Stack.....I'll call you back."

"Stay safe, yeah?"

"You know me."

Stacker smiled at her words.

"That's why I am worried."

Later on, Stacker Pentecost would talk to his sister once again, before her deployment from Vandenbern air force base, a deployment she volunteered for along with Tamsin.

They would realize that the world had changed all of a sudden, as a colossal creature made landfall in San Francisco.

And, it would be the last talk Staccker Pentecorst would ever have with his sister, for she would die at the hands of the monster along with many others.

Humanity would learn that day that they are not alone in the cosmos.

And that their very first contact with alien life was one that triggered a war for survival.

At least, that is what the humans believe anyway.

As for their fellow sapient, immortal giants living in hiding? They had completely different thoughts on the matter.
