Deep in the Arctic, the sea churned as a rift between worlds opened up, stirring the waters above it.
Similar to its counterpart in the Challenger Deep, it shone with an otherworldly light and energy.
However, the moment it opened up, the skies above it twisted as a living kinetic weapon dove down from the exosphere, intent on wiping out anything that would come out of it.
Yet, it was not to be.
The moment the emerald serpent showed up, the rift promptly closed, leaving the ancient being floating in the air, roaring in anger and dismay, before he sensed another rift opening up down south.
'Damn it! Kyogre! This one is closer to you!!'
'On it, Brother-oh come on!!'
Rayquaza snarled and shot back into the exosphere while still conversing with his brother.
'Another dud?'
'Yeah. Whoever is opening these rifts knows that we are tracking them and is playing with us. The moment I got close, the rift closed up, and another one sprang up somewhere in the East.'
'Groudon?'
'Still chasing the rifts opening up in the Hollow Earth. These fuckers are a real headache. They ravaged my crystal mountains!!'
The moment Rayquaza hit the exosphere, he went into his Mega form and rapidly moved across the Earth, chasing the next portal, but once again, the moment he got close and before he could come down, the portal vanished.
This is how it has been for the past two years.
One after another, rifts would open up across the world and even in the Hollow Earth, keeping the Titans busy while Kaiju emerged from the original rift and attacked human cities, which were now being protected by Godzilla and Mothra's combined efforts.
Originally, the trio was planning on spawncamping these monsters from another world and staying near the original portal, waiting for any Kaiju to emerge. However, when they chose to ignore the other rifts, knowing that it was a distraction, the beings on the other side really did send a Kaiju through the other rifts. Worse yet, they sent through three Kaiju at once from three different portals across the world.
This forced the trio into the current situation where they had no choice but to keep moving across the planet, chasing down the portals that would flare up once every few months and forcefully divert their attention from the main portal, leaving the humans vulnerable, with the only way to protect them being Godzilla and Mothra, who remained ever vigilant.
Yet, there were still many human casualties.
Due to their significantly lesser mass, the alien Kaiju were far better swimmers than Godzilla and could even give Mothra a run for her money in terms of speed alone. And yet, despite their lesser density, they were still so strong that Mothra had to take them seriously in a fight.
This meant that, by the time Godzilla and Mothra catch up to the emerging Kaiju, they would already make landfall somewhere and make a mess of things before being killed by Godzilla and Mothra.
Thankfully, things seem to be getting better as humanity finally learned to put aside its differences for the sake of its own survival and come up with a solution to protect itself in the absence of the Titans.
Soon, Rayquaza flew over to Hoenn, which had now grown in size thanks to Groudon increasing the size of the landmass, much to the headache of the various leaders of the other countries and Monarch who tried their best to keep the native Titans in a good light and keep the fear of the common people in check, if only because the Titans were still useful to them to keep them safe.
As he descended towards his home, the Sky Pillar, he watched the various humans move about and work on things that they were busy with.
Wrapping around the Sky Pillar, he took a colossal Optic Fiber cable and placed it in his mouth with practiced ease.
————————————————————————
'Let's see what those fools in power have been upto.'
I thought to myself as I accessed the internet, and then accessed the classified and encrypted channels that the human politicians regularly use, thanks to the practice I've had in breaking into human communication systems.
Ever since the dawn of the internet and fiber optics, I knew that I could not simply depend on my ability to intercept radio waves, microwave bands, and other such wireless methods to keep an eye on humans, especially since most of the internet flows through fiber optic cables lying at the seabed of the planet.
So, I asked the people of Hoenn through my mental link to build me a terminal in the form of the optic cable that is in my mouth right now.
Once again, thanks to my adaptive physiology, I was able to quickly acclimate to accessing the data streams in the cables and decypher them instinctually while also learning to send through data of my own through the cables to take over other systems.
All in all, it took me nearly two months to get used to this. A significantly longer time compared to how I was able to adapt to radio waves and microwave band communications in mere minutes. But the effort was well worth it.
Accessing the data stream, I 'felt' through the sea of information and arrived at the data node that connected to the newly established PPDC's network and looked through their camera and audio systems, keeping an eye on the humans and their so-called 'Jaeger' program.
Simply put, these guys were creating Mechs to fight the Kaiju.
Naturally, I also knew that, when the time came, these idiots would probably turn those Jaegers on the Titans of Earth and even against my brothers and me. Because that is simply how humans are.
However, for now, I will not interfere. I will let them do as they please. Because I know that, as things stand right now, we really can use some more forces on the field to keep an eye out for us while we deal with the rifts opening up across the world.
I kept watching through the cameras as the newly appointed Marshal of the PPDC, Stacker Pentecost, talked with the two lead scientists of the Jaeger project. Jasper Schoenfeld and Caitlin Lightcap.
Truthfully, ever since I saw Stacker Pentecost for the first time through the data streams, and later on, learned about the Jaeger project, I can't help but feel like I've heard or seen all this before, like a memory from long ago trying to come to the surface but failing to.
My best guess is that this was all probably a part of the Monsterverse from back when I was a human. Or maybe, some other franchise.
Whatever the truth is, I don't think I care about all that anymore. After all, this is not some game. This is real life. So such memories can only be used as points of reference, not gospels of truth.
I watched as the woman, Caitlin, walked over to the pilot of the prototype that they were supposed to test that day. The machine is called 'Brawler Yukon'.
I still remember the day the people of Hoenn, for the first time since I started to mingle with them, made a decision on their own without consulting me.
The decision to share their Anti-Gravity technology and the Hollow Earth Crystal-Metal Alloys with the PPDC to build their Jaegers, along with their research into advanced weapon systems.
They thought I would be mad. That I would once again shun them and head back into the exosphere for giving the technology and resources that my brother 'gifted' them.
On the contrary, we couldn't be prouder.
I couldn't be prouder.
Because this was how humanity was always meant to be. This is what I wanted them to be all those millennia ago when I tried to help their kind repeatedly.
To pool together their resources, their knowlege and their culture to unite as a single species. To put aside their baser instincts and to fulfill the potential that my brothers and I always saw in them.
To stand as the co-rulers of this world alongside the Titans as they were supposed to, and learn to co-exist with the various lifeforms of the world that gave birth to them.
And, much to our surprise, we realized that Hoenn was not the only country to do this.
After mastering the digital ways, it is no longer possible for anyone on the planet to hide things from me as long as it has a digital record. So, it came as a great shock to me to see that the other countries, even the petty idiots such as the USA, China, and Russia, put aside their differences and willingly give up their most classified research and technology for the PPDC.
For the first time in human history, politics took a back seat, and the need to protect their species took the front stage.
And now, the people who hold the hopes and dreams of their entire species are taking their very first baby steps.
So, being the old man that I am, how could I not be here to watch over them and make sure they don't stumble too far and harm themselves?
I felt pride bloom in my Nuclear Heart as the scientists and technicians worked on the prototype, preparing it for its very first launch.
Unfortunately, my good mood did not last for long as I felt another rift open up in Antarctica, forcing me to let go of the data stream and head back into the Exosphere.
'This is much sooner than before. It has barely been a few hours since the last activity.'
I nodded at Groudon's words.
'Looks like whoever is responsible for these attacks is accelerating their plans. Either that, or this is a mere coincidence.'
'Let us hope it is the latter, brother. Because if they really are accelerating, then we cannot wait for humanity to stand on its own feet.'
'Don't worry, Kyogre. That is exactly the reason why Project: Exodus exists. If things really do go too far and we don't find a way to break whatever barrier is keeping us from entering those rifts, then we will simply follow the project that Hoenn came up with and help them evacuate while we deal with the threat.'
'Hopefully, that does not come to pass. I rather like the little ones.'
I felt the sorrow from Groudon at the thought and sent a feeling of comfort to him and Kyogre.
'It won't. We will make sure of it.'
