Chapter 17 - Chapter 16

The moment Kaelvryn walked out of Valen's chambers, he froze in his steps, he couldn't believe what was going on in his life.

He was genuinely developing feelings for his bodyguard, he had come here to check on his whereabouts but ended up doing things that he would never do in his entire life.

"What is wrong with me?" He muttered under his breath and walked back to his chambers.

Unknown to him, a maid who was passing by saw King Kaelvryn coming out from Valen chambers with his face flushed.

She gasped with unruly thoughts going through her mind, she covered her mouth and shook her head, "there is no way."

.....

The next day, rumors had reached the ears of the walls.

"The king and his bodyguard were in an intimate relationship..."

Who started it? No one knows but the rumors had escaped the palace grounds and even reached the people's ear.

Valen woke up feeling refreshed, better than yesterday when she heard a small knock on her door.

She gently came down from her bed and strode to the door, opening it gently she saw Georgia looking all jumpy.

Georgia pushed Valen inside and shut the door behind her, "and it's a good morning to you too..." Valen spoke up confused.

"This is no time for pleasantries, I don't think you know what is currently circulating within the palace walls."

Valen raised her brow confused, "I don't understood what you're talking about..."

"A rumor started earlier today that you and the king..." she closed her mouth a bit and let out a deep breath, "are in an intimate relationship."

Valen knew this would happen but she never thought it would be that soon.

She sighed calmly and went straight to her bed, "people will always talk."

Georgia was shocked on how unfazed Valen, "are you genuinely not freaking out?"

Valen shrugged, "if the king behaves crazily, they condemn him...if he starts caring about the people close to him, they raise rumors, what exactly do the people want?"

"You are right but this is quite different, everyone knows the king to be a beast around people not caring but when you suddenly entered the picture...it's different."

Valen remained calm, as her thoughts trailed back to last night, the way the king was so gentle with her. She was genuinely touched by the act but truly to the people this was strange to them.

"The king is actually a good person once you get to know but I hope the rumors subside before the king finds out because the moment he does..." Valen let out a calm sigh and faced Georgia.

"The person who started it might not be saved."

Georgia nodded and as soon as she was about to open her mouth, they heard a knock on the door.

"Valen...the king seeks you at the throne room at once..." the voice from outside echoed through the corners of the room.

"Understood." She replied.

Georgia and Valen exchanged worried glances, as Valen feared the worst has actually happened.

"Let's think positively..." Georgia said calmly as finally excused herself from the room.

Valen took some deep breaths, packed her hair and wore a normal robe and heading straight to throne praying to the heavens to meet the king she had experienced the night before.

The moment she arrived at the throne room, she saw two maids in chains on their knees and sobbing profusely, Lord Valor and two other council members by the side and Georgia at the corner of the room.

"Your Majesty...you requested for my presence,"

"Yes..." He came down from his throne, his robe sweeping the floor as she approached one of the maids with a sword.

Valen didn't think, she ran and stood right in front of them waiting for the sword to strike but the King only chuckled.

Kaelvryn tilted his head and lowered himself to the ground to meet the eyes of the maid, "the same man you were spreading rumors about is currently the same man risking his life to save you."

The maids kept sobbing behind Valen, she knew it...the moment she was called to the throne room, she knew he had found the culprits.

"Please...your majesty, forgive us, we promise never to spread any rumors ever again," they bowed, crying and pleading from the depth of their hearts.

King Kaelvryn rose to his abruptly, "there it is...the begging and the fake tears, where was it when you earlier denied the

allegations before you."

Valen wanted to say something but it was stuck at the tip of her tongue, at least she stood in front of them but with the snap of the King's fingers, they could drop dead.

"Your Majesty..." she finally spoke, everyone turned to her.

"The maids did a wrong thing by spreading such rumors and you are right by giving them a benefitting punishment like death," the maids wailed loudly.

King Kaelvryn smirk grew higher, "so its right for me to take them to their graves."

"Yes..." everyone was quite taken aback by her answer, "but, if you are to kill them, it's best to also kill everyone who heard the rumor so it would finally die down and other can learn a lesson."

"Are you insane?" A councilman yelled loudly.

Valen faced him with a small smile on her face, "no I am not but in order for the rumors to die down, everyone who ever heard the rumor should also die."

King Kaelvryn burst into laughter, "you see why I like him, he has a great sense of humor," then his face turned cold and walked straight to the councilmen.

"Lord Valor, Lord Andros and finally..." he took a pause and stared deep into much taller council elder

"Lord Damien...you three walked into my chambers before the break of dawn and told me about these said rumors ruining my sleep and now that my trusted body guard has given me the best way to counter the rumor, there's a problem...?"

Valen had always thought that Lord Valor was the councilman who ever dared to stare right into the King's eye without shaking but she was certainly proved wrong the moment she saw Lord Damien.

He had a cruel face that certainly wore expressions that was quite surprising to her, suddenly a small smile rose across his face.

"My King...you are certainly right, we committed such outrageous offense by disturbing your sleep and bringing such meaningless things to your table, we certainly deserve to die."

Lord Valor and Lord Andros were taken aback by Lord Damien words, even the maids were finally losing hope.

King Kaelvryn went back to his throne and relaxed properly, "if I were to slaughter all who heard the rumor, they would no more in the kingdom so my decree...the two maids who started the rumors will be demoted to attending the prisoners for five years, and if any vile rumor dare spread again, the person would wish death upon themselves."

They all bowed and Valen was relieved to hear this but something about Lord Damien threw her off.

Only he did not bow to the king.
