Chapter 13 - [13] The Sorting Showdown

Harry Potter fanfiction, the main characters and the female lead will change.

The only constant is this hereditary prince!

"If I remember correctly, Hannah Abbott is supposed to be Neville's future wife."

"If Neville were assigned to Hufflepuff, I wonder if their development would be faster."

As Argus pondered, Professor McGonagall called Neville's name.

"Neville Longbottom!"

Neville's steps were unsteady; he was very unaccustomed to being the center of attention in this situation.

Unlike the previous ones, the Sorting Hat seemed to be deep in thought, communicating with him about something.

Are you sure about your choice?

"I...I'm sure!"

"Alright! Hufflepuff!"

The Hufflepuff table erupted in cheers once more, with only Dumbledore's brow furrowing slightly.

He seemed to be confused.

"If I remember correctly, Mr. Longbottom's parents were both Gryffindor graduates, right? I didn't expect him to come to Hufflepuff."

Professor Sprout was a plump, silver-haired lady with a kind smile. She beamed with joy as she saw one student after another being assigned to her house.

"Next up, Hermione Granger!"

Hearing her name called, Hermione took a deep breath and stepped forward.

Hermione, don't be nervous! Believe in yourself!

Hermione cheered herself up while glancing back at Argus, then put on the Sorting Hat and sat down on the stool.

"She's mentally ill; she looks strange."

Ron clearly remembered the girl who had followed Argus back then, who had secretly whispered bad things in Harry's ear during the sorting of houses.

He thought Harry would agree, but instead the other looked at him with slight dissatisfaction.

Argus gave him a cold glance.

Feeling the pressure of his gaze, Ron, who already had psychological trauma, didn't even dare to lift his head.

He huddled behind Harry, acting like a coward.

"Mr. Weasley, it's not a good habit to talk behind people's backs."

Professor McGonagall stood not far from the two of them; how could the upright Professor McGonagall tolerate such a thing?

She immediately issued a warning, which drew attention from many people.

Just then, the Sorting Hat's voice rang out, tinged with a hint of helplessness.

"Well, I don't know why, but this year's freshmen all seem to have their own ideas."

"So..."

"Ravenclaw!"

Hermione cheered and gave Argus a smug look before skipping and hopping toward the Ravenclaw table.

As soon as she sat down, she started chatting with the senior student next to her.

The group of people kept glancing at Argus.

"Two already. I just want to know, without Hermione, how can Harry and Ron, two guys who can barely put together half a brain, possibly fight Voldemort!"

So far, Argus was fairly satisfied with his performance on the train.

To establish initial authority at Hogwarts and leave a perfect impression on the professors.

Separating Hermione and Neville from Harry's side created more room for them to maneuver against Dumbledore in the future.

Now, the only thing to see was whether Harry could be tricked into joining Slytherin.

If he were to actually be brought in, Dumbledore would be in for a lot of trouble!

As Draco, Pansy, Ron, and others completed their sorting, the climax of the first battle between Argus and Dumbledore arrived!

"Harry Potter!"

Professor McGonagall looked down at Harry, and the entire hall instantly erupted in noise.

Even Dumbledore stood up and looked straight at him.

"It's not easy to handle; it's definitely a difficult problem."

"I can tell you're very courageous, kind-hearted, and talented. Yes, that's right."

Harry sat down on the stool, the Sorting Hat's question echoing in his mind.

"Hey Harry, tell me, is there any house you'd like to go to?"

"It's that boy again!"

The Sorting Hat looked as if it had seen something amazing.

"Again?" Harry keenly sensed the message in the Sorting Hat's words.

"Yes, that blond, blue-eyed boy."

"Before you, many people followed his advice, but he was right. There is no best house, only the one that is most suitable for you."

"I'm curious to know where he'll be assigned."

"Have you decided? Which house do you want to go to?"

Slytherin? Or Gryffindor?

"Let me think…" Harry was caught in a dilemma.

As time ticked by, the students outside gradually grew from quiet to restless.

Before Harry, the longest time had never been more than two minutes.

But now, a full five minutes had passed!

Harry hadn't finished sorting yet!

This made them wonder if the Sorting Hat had gone mad because it was so filthy.

Perhaps it was time to give it a complete cleaning?

Dumbledore's brow furrowed into a deep frown.

As the principal, he was very familiar with the rules of the Sorting Hat.

There was only one reason why it hadn't finished after so long: Harry was hesitating!

He specifically sent Hagrid to pick up Harry, and then timed it perfectly so that Harry would run into the Weasleys at the station.

All of these things subtly conveyed to Harry that Gryffindor was the best house.

Even so, Harry still hesitated...

He slowly turned his gaze to Argus in the center of the crowd.

"Is it because of you, Argus?"

Besides Argus, who else could have such a profound influence on Harry in such a short time?

"Haven't made a decision yet, Harry?"

"Fine, I'll help you!"

The Sorting Hat's final voice entered Harry's mind, and it then announced to everyone.

"Harry Potter's house is..."

"Gryffindor!"

The next second, Gryffindor was in complete chaos!

"We have Harry Potter!"

"Harry Potter belongs to Gryffindor!"

"..."

Dumbledore's tense back finally relaxed, and he secretly breathed a sigh of relief.

Argus shook his head helplessly.

We were still one step behind!

Fortunately, he noticed that Harry's behavior seemed somewhat unusual.

Sitting at the Gryffindor table, he wore a smile, but it was just a smile.

It wasn't nearly as exciting as in the original story!

"Dumbledore, so what if you force Harry into Gryffindor?"

"He doesn't feel any sense of belonging to Gryffindor anymore."

"I lost this round, but you didn't win either!"

The Great Hall was noisy for quite a while before it quieted down.

Professor McGonagall held the parchment, preparing to call the next person forward, but when she saw the next name, a complex expression appeared in her eyes.

She turned her head and looked at Dumbledore, her expression somewhat hesitant.

Just as everyone was wondering why Professor McGonagall hesitated, she spoke up.

Her eyes were fixed on Argus.

"Argus Grindelwald!"

The entire Great Hall was deathly silent!
