Chapter 18 - [18] Reaping the Rewards

"You...you..."

Scamander's actions left Argus completely bewildered.

Bro, you're a top-tier guy!

Can't you be a little more sophisticated?

Don't act like a lackey!

"Brother, let's make a deal. Give me some face. There are so many people watching. At least let me lose gracefully."

"If you agree, I'll give you a big gift later!"

"That's a treasure I've kept for many years!"

Scamander pleaded in a low voice that only the two of them could hear.

Argus hesitated for a moment, then nodded.

Since we're going to win anyway, what difference does it make how we win?

By giving them a little leeway, you can still get some benefits from them!

Why not?

"Both sides are ready!"

"The duel begins!"

The two bowed to each other and walked to opposite sides of the battlefield.

"Petrificus Totalus!"

"Levicorpus!"

"Stupefy!"

"Protego!"

Spells flew about, and dazzling beams of light drew gasps of surprise from the young wizards.

Fantastic scenes, mysterious spells!

This is the kind of magical duel they want to see!

The junior wizards and most of the senior students couldn't figure it out, but the top wizards and Snape were different.

It's obvious at a glance that the two of them are just putting on a show!

They didn't actually do anything serious!

"Scamander, do you have any backbone as a top executive?!"

"They're doing all this with a freshman!"

Prefect Gemma was cursing, but a sense of foreboding rose in her heart.

The top student in fifth grade went home these past few days and couldn't compete.

If he can't beat fifth graders, will I be his next challenge?

No, absolutely not!

What if I really get completely overwhelmed by a freshman? Wouldn't I become a laughing stock in the entire Hogwarts?

"Mr. Grindelwald truly deserves to be the most anticipated freshman of this year, I concede defeat!"

After fighting back and forth for a few minutes, Scamander was knocked away by a spell, bowed gracefully, and admitted that he was no match for Argus.

Argus calmly put away his wand and looked back at the leader's camp.

Gemma was terrified!

He's coming! He's coming!

Just as Gemma was racking her brains for an excuse to refuse to fight, Snape suddenly spoke up.

"Mr. Grindelwald!"

"If you don't want your classmate to be lying on their desk like a slug tomorrow and unable to get up, you'd better pay attention to the time now."

Argus glanced at the clock in the lounge and realized that the hour and minute hands were about to overlap; it was already past eleven, almost midnight.

Many freshmen were already yawning.

Argus didn't want to give up, but Snape had already warned him that if he continued, everyone would think he was only thinking about showing off.

He disregards others for fame and fortune!

This is extremely detrimental to his future actions.

"I'm sorry, Professor Snape."

"I'm sorry everyone, for keeping you all waiting for so long."

Argus bowed deeply to everyone to express his apology.

"It's alright, it's always like this in the annual chief competition."

"Today's chief battle is now over!"

"Each grade should return to their respective dormitory in turn!"

Gemma Farley quickly stepped forward and immediately announced the end of the meeting, fearing that Argus might change his mind.

He secretly breathed a sigh of relief!

It seems my position as prefect is safe for now!

Luckily, the dean was there, otherwise I would have been in big trouble today!

It's incredibly embarrassing for a sixth-grader to beat a first-grader, regardless of the outcome!

After everyone left, many people were still discussing the battle that Argus had just fought.

For these teenagers, both Argus's strength and his elegance in battle were enough to make him an idol.

Many bold female seniors have already openly and secretly offered their advances to Argus.

But faced with these enthusiastic senior female students, Argus didn't dare to move an inch.

It's not that the senior student isn't pretty.

It's an ingrained fear of more than three years, with the maximum penalty being death!

"Argus, come with me."

"I'll take you to the first-year top student's private dormitory."

Gemma Farley's appearance eased Argus's embarrassment.

They followed him all the way to the independent dormitory.

The environment was much better than Argus had imagined.

"From now on, this will be your own room, and you will be in charge of the affairs of this grade."

"Of course, I advise you to put up some magic at the entrance to prevent yourself from being disturbed by trivial matters while studying."

"I understand, thank you, Senior Farley."

Gemma Farley gave a few brief instructions and then returned to her dormitory.

Argus was the only one left in the huge room.

"Finally, I can see how many achievement points I've saved up!"

He opened the system and saw that he had defeated the fourth-year champion and gained another 400 achievement points.

The total has reached 1500!

"System, initiate the lottery!"

A bunch of card packs appeared in mid-air; he picked out a few that looked good and opened them one by one.

Accompanied by a dazzling...blue sky and white clouds.

Only one purple light provides a safety net.

Argus's heart sank to the bottom.

"It seems that no matter what kind of lottery it is, it's not that easy to win gold."

[Congratulations, host, you have obtained the following: Impedimenta (Level 2), Lumos (Level 1), Bombarda (Level 2), Reducto (Level 3), Depulso (Level 2), Protego (Level 3), Obliviate (Level 2), Episkey (Level 3), Ventus (Level 3)]

[Congratulations, host, you have obtained: Sectumsempra (Level 5)]

[Current remaining achievement points: 500]

[Host has been detected to have mastered some spells. Do you wish to fuse them?]

"Merge!"

A familiar sensation of insertion flooded his brain, and the system gave him a notification.

[The host possesses exceptional talent, having attained super-magic comprehension.]

Impedimenta (Level 3), Depulso (Level 3), Protego (Level 4), Sectumsempra (Level 6)

"Your weapons and armor have also been upgraded."

"It's like getting two purple items at once, except your weapon almost turned gold."

"Not bad."

Many of the spells obtained from the gacha pool are of a lower level than Argus's current level, and even if the rewards are converted into experience, it is difficult to level up in one go.

"Since I'm having such good luck right now, let's try another five-pull!"

He opened five more card packs, and they were still filled with blue skies and white clouds.

The difference is that one of the card packs was emitting an eerie, ghostly green light.

[Congratulations, host, you have obtained: Scourgify (Level 2), Aguamenti (Level 1), Protego (Level 2), Anapneo (Level 3)]

[Congratulations, host, you have obtained: Avada Kedavra (Level 3)]

[Current remaining achievement points: 0]

[Host has been detected to have mastered some spells. Do you wish to fuse them?]

"Merge!"

The fusion was complete; it was just that "Aguamenti" and "Anapneo" had been upgraded to the next level.

However, Argus didn't care; the two spells were mainly useful in daily life.

It has little impact on combat effectiveness.

It's better than nothing, to say the least!

"The ghostly green one is the Avada Kedavra... It seems that all three Unforgivable Curses are ghostly green in the gacha pool."

"Fortunately, the level it gave me wasn't too high, otherwise, I would have been in a real predicament."

Argus had learned a great deal about the Dark Arts from Vinda and Grindelwald.

Learning the Dark Arts gradually while remaining clear-headed does not have as significant an impact on oneself as one might imagine.

The difficulty lies in the fact that it's hard to stay focused, or rather, when you're doing in-depth research, it's impossible to constantly check your own state.

Moreover, you can't be sure if the Dark Arts you're studying is compatible with your current abilities!

This is why many people seem to become completely different people after learning the Dark Arts!

"It's getting late, time to sleep. I have to get up early for class tomorrow."

"I never thought that even after being reborn, I still couldn't escape the fate of going to school."

Argus had just changed into his pajamas and was getting ready for bed.

A slight noise suddenly came from the doorway.

"Argus? Argus, are you asleep?"

"Scamander?"

Argus then remembered that Scamander seemed to have said he was going to give him a big gift.

As soon as the door opened, Scamander winked and shoved a thin book into Argus's arms.

"Brother, this is a treasure I've kept for many years!"

A treasured possession? Is it some kind of secret magic?

Argus suspiciously lifted the cover, and the shocking scene that greeted his eyes made them widen!

"This...this is!"

Shh! Keep your voice down!

Scamander covered Argus's mouth with his hand, his smile growing increasingly lewd.

"How about that? Pretty generous of me, huh? Let me tell you, my friend has been asking me for it for ages and I haven't given it to him!"

"We're even now!"

"I hope you'll be able to get out of bed tomorrow!"
