Chapter 56 - Begins

Fulen only realized after hearing what Kvedo said about it being a peculiar pocket watch; it turned out that no one in this world had ever made a wristwatch, and even after Kvedo created it, he merely called it a peculiar pocket watch.

However, Fulen still questioned whether this was Rosell's idea, and then asked, "This pocket watch isn't meant to be kept in a pocket. Since you're the first to make it, why don't you give it a name?"

Kvedo, for some reason, responded somewhat awkwardly, "Actually, this wasn't my idea. This, uh, this was Emperor Rosell's idea. I, uh, I heard it from someone else."

Fulen thought, 'Sure enough,' and then pressed, "Emperor Rosell is so knowledgeable and talented. Have you heard any more of Governor Rosell's inspirations?"

Kvedo seemed somewhat embarrassed at this moment and replied, "No. Oh, right, let's hurry to the Extraordinary Gathering. You've already attended one Extraordinary Gathering since arriving today, your luck is really good. Let's make the most of our time."

Fulen didn't think much of it, simply echoing, "Okay, let's go."

Returning to the outside of the dark basement Door, watching the dim candlelight illuminate him, Fulen took out his pocket watch. Relying on his vision, which was much better than his highly myopic self in his previous life, he clearly saw the current time: 3:55.

Just then, Fulen heard the sound of the Door opening. Erich and Karl walked out unhurriedly. Karl was carrying a cloth-wrapped bundle, which was clearly the Beyonder materials he needed. Erich also held a bundle, though it was unclear what was inside.

Kvedo and Fulen went up to them. Kvedo opened his mouth and asked, "Karl, have you collected all the materials you need? Hmm, Erich, you also need Beyonder materials."

Karl answered with a simple "Yes."

Erich said as he walked, "Yes, I know some ritual magic and rune magic, and I need Beyonder materials for crafting. What, you can't craft runes?"

Kvedo chuckled and said, "I can craft them, but with my spirituality, I can't engrave effective runes and rituals, so it's better not to have too many Beyonder materials."

Then Kvedo led the three of them upstairs, intending to guide them to the second floor to participate in the Extraordinary Gathering.

The second floor of the tavern contained nothing strange, just private rooms arranged along both sides of a deep corridor. Kvedo, familiar with the way, led the three of them into a room without a number plate, located in the middle.

Fulen hadn't seen any room numbers on this floor and was curious how Kvedo could distinguish the place. However, upon closer inspection of the room Door, he noticed that its exterior had subtle decorations, which were easily overlooked in the dim candlelight.

But looking closely, one could still tell the difference between this private room and the others.

The Door to this room did not open immediately for Kvedo and them; it only opened a crack, revealing a figure wearing an iron mask. Kvedo, without a word, handed his nameplate to this person.

Previously, due to the angle, Fulen hadn't clearly seen Kvedo's nameplate, but now he saw it clearly: the card depicted Kvedo in a white robe, but the portrayal of Kvedo was very strange, one could even say maliciously distorted.

No matter what, the person who drew this card clearly had a mischievous sense of humor. For anyone, using a distorted picture of themselves to pass through here would be very awkward, especially in front of friends who don't know the inside story.

After entering the Door, Kvedo quickly put away the card and then grinned mischievously at his friends around him, "Don't think my card is the only ugly one; yours will be ugly too."

Fulen touched his forehead and said to Kvedo, "Uh, who drew this card? The boss? Did he intentionally draw people ugly?"

Kvedo also looked pained and said, "It's not that bad. The boss isn't good at drawing to begin with. He only learned to draw after coming to Intis, but he doesn't seem to have any talent for drawing. He can't even draw people well, but he insists on drawing portraits for everyone."

Shaking his head, Kvedo said speechlessly, "What's even worse is that even if everyone else says he draws randomly, he insists he doesn't. We asked him to identify whose card was whose, but he could actually tell. And, he even bragged that he had pioneered a new genre."

"The confident boss even said that the recently popular Impressionist and Fauvist styles of painting came after his artistic creation. He even claimed to be an artistic pioneer of the Rosell era. Although I don't know much about painting, I can still tell that this guy is just bad at drawing." Kvedo concluded his evaluation of the boss with a tone of exasperation.

After walking past the small reception lounge, Kvedo fell silent. The only lively point in the group quieted down, and naturally, no one spoke.

The four walked silently into a clearly very large living room and sat down. Tables and sofas were arranged inside, and the four chose a four-person table.

Perhaps due to their lack of experience in the Beyonder world, all four remained silent. Fulen cast his gaze towards the other tables and, as expected, saw that the people at the other tables were also silent.

In this huge room, Kvedo could even hear one or two people whispering, although he couldn't make out what they were saying, he could tell where the speakers were located.

The owner of the soft whispers also realized that their words were being noticed in the silent atmosphere and quickly stopped making sounds.

After only a few minutes, a black-clad, iron-masked man, walking with a sense of efficiency, came to a specially elevated stage-like area and said in a muffled voice, "Time's up, let's start the gathering."

This stage also had tables and sofas. After speaking, the black-clad man sat down, and the surrounding attendants placed small blackboards on the stage.

And the attendants moved through the crowd, waiting for people to raise their hands and hand over their small slips of paper, then collecting questions. Kvedo asked an attendant for a pen and paper, then asked his companions around him, "Do you need any Beyonder items?"

Karl shook his head, and Erich remained silent. Fulen said, "I don't need any either."

Kvedo looked at his three friends, who seemed to desire nothing, and said no more. After writing a line, he handed the slip of paper to the waiting attendant.

Afterward, Kvedo and Fulen and the others started chatting idly. The entire room was no longer silent after the announcement to begin.

The attendants organized everyone's requests one by one, wrote them on the blackboard, and when finished, the host stood up.
