Arlene's POV
Watching Calista and Nicholson together fills my chest with a warmth I haven't felt in weeks. They sit cross-legged on the living room floor, sharing snacks while Nicholson carefully braids Calista's dark hair. The little girl chatters about her school experiences, her eyes bright with curiosity as she asks Nicholson about her education.
Nicholson explains her private tutoring arrangement, and Calista's face lights up with genuine excitement. She declares it sounds far more interesting than sitting in classrooms waiting for slower students to catch up. Their easy conversation flows from topic to topic, eventually settling on art. Nicholson even retrieves the terrible painting Warner bought her back in California, along with photos of her growing collection of stuffed animals that Jamiya continues to spoil her with.
