Chapter 15 – Mr. Mo's True Identity
The moment she heard those words, Wen Xue—who had been standing opposite them enjoying the drama—had her face instantly turn into a color palette, as wonderful and "colorful" as it could possibly be.
Wen Zhi had originally wondered whether Mo Tinging was behind this, but the moment she heard the price, she completely dismissed the thought. That was the cost of a large house—her husband didn't have that kind of ability.
And right after that, she received a text message…
She pulled out her phone for a quick glance. Her expression remained calm on the surface, but her heart exploded like boiling oil!
This Mo Tinging—he was insane!
Even though Wen Zhi's emotions surged wildly, she did not let a single trace show under Wen Xue's probing, suspicious gaze.
But in her heart she was thinking… This thing can be returned, right?
In the end, Wen Zhi lifted her eyes toward Wen Xue and said indifferently, "Why are you staring at me like that? Didn't you still not pay for that cheap necklace you picked?"
The moment she finished speaking, Wen Xue looked like she had flames of fury erupting from her head!
The "kind and gentle" expression she had forced out earlier vanished completely; her face turned cold and foul. "Xiao Zhi, you're a girl— you must learn to respect yourself. You can't just go mess around with some rich man because you look pretty. You have to understand, the price you pay with your body is temporary, you—"
Wen Zhi cut her off directly: "Wow, you sure have the face to lecture me! What, just because you're a crow, you think every phoenix in the world is your color?"
Wen Xue's expression went horribly dark!
"Wen Zhi, you—"
Rage surged so violently in her chest it almost choked her, but then, thinking of something, she suddenly let out a cold laugh. "Say whatever you want. Your dad has already decided to marry you into the Jin family. If you end up offending President Jin, do you think your life will be easy?"
A trace of contempt curled Wen Zhi's lips. "Then you go marry him. You're already an expert at ruining other people's relationships. Now that the man's wife is dead, you don't even need to be a mistress—you can just walk right in and take the position. Isn't that great?"
"WEN ZHI!"
Wen Xue was so furious her chest heaved violently. But with Wen Zhi's look of total indifference and refusal to yield, all she could do was grit her teeth viciously.
"Fine! Let's see how long you can keep acting tough! Just you wait— I'll definitely make sure you marry into the Jin family. Don't get cocky!"
After saying that, she didn't even buy the necklace anymore and stormed out of the jewelry store in anger.
Wen Zhi may have won the argument, but she instantly deflated like a punctured balloon, her eyes falling on the "sinful" necklace in front of her.
Four million? For this?
She felt her future days were about to become miserable!
She hesitated for a moment and raised her eyes to the sales associate, ready to say something, when suddenly a warm chest pressed against her back, and a pair of strong arms wrapped around her waist.
Wen Zhi turned around sharply, and there he was—the man whose shameless grin made her teeth itch with fury.
She used all her strength to pry off Mo Tinging's arms, glaring at him with clenched teeth as she hissed, "Are you out of your mind?"
The text he had sent her earlier contained only a few words:
[Do you like the necklace I bought you?]
If that disgusting woman hadn't been there, she would have exploded on the spot!
Wen Zhi jabbed a finger at Mo Tinging's chest and growled, "You know exactly what our family's situation is! We still owe two million in loans, and you dare to buy a four-million-dollar necklace? If you really plan on living like this, Mo Tinging, then I can't keep going with you!"
"Don't get worked up, Pearl. Calm down…"
As he spoke, he gently wrapped his hand around the finger she was poking him with, the other hand stroking her fair hand provocatively.
"Why do you think I insisted on bringing you to this store? The owner is my friend. I saw you getting bullied earlier, so I called him and asked him to have the staff act along with me."
He picked up the necklace from the tray and dangled it. "Look at this necklace—it's so plain it doesn't even have half a diamond. Does it look like something worth four million? It was just to fool that clueless mother and daughter."
Meanwhile, the sales associate had been watching the "four-million-dollar necklace" nervously the entire time, afraid something might happen to it.
Hearing that, Wen Zhi froze for a moment. She didn't know much about jewelry and wasn't good at appraising pieces—this necklace did look quite simple.
But everything in this store was expensive. She immediately asked, "Then how much is it actually?"
Mo Tinging originally wanted to say forty thousand, but thinking he might be scolded anyway, he casually said, "Four thousand."
Then he looked straight at the sales associate. "If you don't believe me, ask her."
Sales associate: "…"
Worldview REWRITTEN.
She had only ever seen people inflate jewelry prices—never someone lowering them.
But the higher-ups had already notified her of Mr. Mo's true identity…
In short, he was the "God among gods." She absolutely had to cooperate.
With a bright smile, she said, "Yes, miss, this necklace is currently on special for 4,000."
Four thousand?!
Wen Zhi frowned slightly—barely acceptable—but she still felt a sting of pain in her heart.
After all, she didn't care for things that couldn't appreciate in value. Four thousand yuan could buy half a small gold bangle.
"You don't understand women's preferences. Don't buy this kind of thing for me on your own again. If I want something, I'll buy it myself."
Mo Tinging's roguish smile deepened, one eyebrow lifting. "Alright, whatever you say. Come on, look around again—see if there's anything else you want. Pick two more."
Wen Zhi did want a gold bangle, but buying this necklace had exceeded her limit a little. So she compromised and chose a gold ring and a pair of gold earrings. With that, her "wedding three-piece set" was complete.
On the way home, Wen Zhi was looking at the three pieces of jewelry in the box when Mo Tinging's low, mellow voice sounded beside her:
"Let me ask you—did you agree to marry me that day because your stepmother tried to pair you with that wealthy old man?"
Wen Zhi put down the box and looked at him. Seeing no reason to hide it, she answered honestly:
"Yes. I didn't want them to get what they wanted. Why should they control my life? I got married first—what can they do about it then?"
Mo Tinging's lips curled upward as he glanced at her. "Looks like I got lucky. But I'll give you credit—my Pearl handled it beautifully. I mean, being with an old man? How is that better than being with a young, strong, and highly skilled premium man like me?"
Wen Zhi: "…"
Just as she was speechless, her phone rang.
Seeing it was Yan Duo calling, she frowned and picked up casually.
On the other end, Yan Duo was chattering like popcorn:
"Wen Zhi, big news! This morning Captain Mo said in the office that he won't fly with Chief Purser Xu's team anymore—he specifically requested Chief Purser Xue's team instead. Xu has a terrifying background, and anyone who's ever crossed her has never had a good ending. I think… this time Captain Mo is doomed!"
Wen Zhi turned sharply to look at Mo Tinging driving beside her, thinking:
Yeah… he's definitely doomed.
