Midnight.
Mama Fowora leads Sade and the weakened Tunde to an open field behind the ruins of the shrine.
The moon hangs heavy, red-tinted.
The air is thick with invisible spirits watching from the shadows.
Mama Fowora draws a large circle using chalk mixed with ash and palm oil.
Mama Fowora:
"Step inside. Both of you."
Sade holds Tunde, who can barely stand, and helps him into the circle.
Immediately, the mark on Sade's wrist ignites with golden light.
Tunde's body glows faintly in response, like their energies are linking.
Mama Fowora raises her staff.
Mama Fowora:
"Sade… what you carry is ancient. Older than kingdoms, older than death. The Hunter fears it — but that also means it wants it."
Sade swallows hard.
Sade:
"So what is it exactly?"
Mama Fowora looks her straight in the eyes.
Mama Fowora:
"It is the First Flame. The power the ancestors used to separate the living world from the spirit world."
Tunde's eyes widen.
Tunde:
"I've heard legends of it… but I never believed—"
Mama Fowora:
"Yes. And now that flame sleeps inside Sade."
The earth trembles slightly beneath them.
Mama Fowora pounds her staff once.
The circle bursts into bright golden fire, surrounding them.
Sade panics.
Sade:
"MAMA! IT'S TOO HOT!"
Mama Fowora:
"Then tame it. If it burns you, the Hunter wins."
Sade breathes fast, terror rising.
The flames rise higher.
Tunde struggles, voice weak:
Tunde:
"Sade… look at me."
She does.
His eyes seem darker. Fuller. More alive.
Tunde:
"You controlled your fear in the spirit world. You saved me then… save yourself now."
The flames roar.
Sade closes her eyes.
She reaches inward.
She feels the burning symbol on her wrist…
She feels the connection to Tunde…
And suddenly—
BAAAM!
A shockwave of light explodes outward.
The flames bow to her — bending, swirling, then settling around her like a golden ring.
Mama Fowora gasps.
Mama Fowora:
"You… you did it. You mastered the First Flame faster than any human I've ever seen."
Sade opens her eyes.
They are glowing faintly gold.
Tunde stares at her like he's seeing a goddess.
Later, they return to the old house to rest.
Sade helps Tunde lie down. His body flickers like dying light.
Sade:
"Tunde… are you fading?"
He avoids her eyes.
Sade:
"Tunde. Tell me the truth."
He sighs shakily.
Tunde:
"I was never meant to exist in your world. Every minute I stay here… I unravel."
Sade's heart feels like it's tearing.
Sade:
"So what happens if you unravel completely?"
He hesitates.
Tunde:
"I become a Hollow — an empty spirit. Dangerous. Violent. A monster with my memories erased."
Sade's breath catches.
Sade:
"No. No. That can't happen. I won't let it."
Tunde sits up, placing a glowing hand on her cheek.
This time… he feels warm. Real. Solid.
Tunde:
"Sade… you are the only thing anchoring me."
Their faces move closer.
Sade whispers:
Sade:
"Then stay anchored."
Their lips touch.
Soft. Warm.
Not ghost and human…
But soul to soul.
As they kiss—
Tunde's glow intensifies.
His form sharpens.
His heartbeat returns — faint but real.
When they pull away, Sade stares at him.
Sade:
"You… you're becoming human."
Tunde looks at his hands in wonder.
Tunde:
"Your flame… your bond… it's turning me into something new."
Mama Fowora steps into the room, watching with awe.
Mama Fowora:
"A spirit born twice… once in death, once in love."
But her expression changes.
Her voice grows dark.
Mama Fowora:
"Be warned — the Hunter will sense this transformation. And it will come harder."
Night.
Sade goes to her bathroom to wash her face.
She stands before the mirror.
She looks tired, scared, yet stronger than ever.
She splashes water on her face.
When she looks up…
Her reflection is smiling.
But she is not.
Sade freezes.
The reflection's eyes turn black.
Reflection (whispers):
"Found you."
Suddenly—
A dark hand shoots out from the mirror, grabbing Sade by the throat.
Sade screams, kicking, fighting — the hand drags her face toward the glass.
The reflection morphs into the Spirit Hunter's form — tall, hollow-eyed, monstrous.
Hunter (whispering):
"You glow too brightly. You belong to me."
Sade claws at the hand, gasping for breath.
Just before she blacks out—
Tunde bursts into the bathroom.
His body glows BRIGHT — almost blinding.
He slashes his hand through the air.
A shockwave of light shatters the mirror.
Sade collapses into his arms.
Tunde trembles, angrier than she's ever seen him.
His voice is deeper.
More powerful.
Tunde:
"It tried to mark you through the mirror. That means it's getting closer."
Sade clings to him.
Sade:
"Tunde… I'm scared."
He pulls her closer.
Tunde:
"Then I'll stand between you and the fear itself. I promise."
The next morning, Mama Fowora gathers them in a circle.
She places an old relic box on the table.
It is wrapped in centuries-old cloth.
Mama Fowora takes a deep breath.
Mama Fowora:
"I wasn't going to tell you this…
But you must know who you are truly facing."
She unwraps the box.
Inside lies:
An ancient mask.
Half-broken.
Carved from ebony wood.
With spiraling marks identical to Sade's new symbol.
Sade frowns.
Sade:
"What is this?"
Mama Fowora:**
"This mask belonged to the first Guardian — the only person who ever defeated the Spirit Hunter."
Sade gasps.
Sade:
"What happened to them?"
Mama Fowora:**
"They died. Protecting a spirit they loved."
Sade turns pale.
She looks at Tunde.
Realization dawns.
Her voice almost breaks:
Sade:
"You mean… someone like me? Someone who loved a spirit?"
Mama Fowora nods slowly.
Mama Fowora:
"You are not the first. But you may be the last hope."
Tunde's expression darkens.
He grips her hand tightly.
Tunde:
"I won't let history repeat itself. I won't lose you, Sade."
Sade squeezes his hand back.
Sade:
"And I won't let you become a Hollow."
They stare at each other with a bond deeper than life.
But Mama Fowora interrupts.
Her voice low.
Serious.
Mama Fowora:
"There is more. The Guardian of old… left a prophecy."
Sade's heart stops.
Sade:
"A prophecy?"
Mama Fowora nods slowly, fear in her eyes.
Mama Fowora:
"Yes.
A prophecy that says…
Only one of you will survive the final confrontation."
Sade and Tunde freeze.
Their hands loosen.
Their eyes fill with shock and terror.
The air falls silent.
The world goes still.
And the bond between them suddenly feels like the beginning of something…
and the end of something.
