Chapter 4 - The Death of the Observer

Date: December 31, 2026 Location: Deep Underground Bunker "The Silo"

"We have to stop thinking," Dr. Haruka said, his hand hovering over the console.

The plan was designated Protocol: Tabula Rasa. It was not a weapon to destroy SCP-009-JP. It was a weapon to lobotomize humanity. The deployment of Memetic Agent Omega-Zero would sever the frontal lobes of every human being on Earth. It would eradicate abstract thought, imagination, anxiety, and hope.

"It is the only way," Haruka whispered. "If there is no 'Observer' to define her, she loses her power. If we are just animals, she is just a picture."

The monitors in the bunker—which had been disconnected from all power sources—flickered on. SCP-009-JP was on every screen. She was looking at Haruka.

For a moment, Haruka wondered if she was pleading with him. Was she afraid of vanishing? He looked closer. No. Her face was as flat and empty as a sheet of paper. She wasn't afraid. She wasn't begging. She was waiting. She was waiting for him to decide what she was.

"I'm sorry," Haruka said, a tear rolling down his cheek. "I'm not going to make you a monster anymore. I'm not going to make you a god. From now on... you are nothing."

He pressed the button.

A high-frequency signal blasted across the globe. In an instant, Dr. Haruka's eyes widened, then went dull. The tension left his shoulders. The concept of "sadness" evaporated from his brain. The concept of "SCP-009-JP" was deleted from his mind.

He looked at the screen one last time. He saw a shape. Colors. Lines. It meant nothing to him. He turned away, looking for food, driven only by the hunger of an animal.
