Chapter 5 - The Monument to Sapience

Date: Unknown (Year 2030+) Location: The Silent World

The Earth was quiet. Nature had begun to reclaim the steel and concrete of the cities. Humans still existed. They roamed the streets in packs, eating, sleeping, surviving. They were healthy, but they were hollow. No art. No language. No war. No fear.

In the center of the overgrown Shibuya Crossing, a single, shattered digital billboard flickered with a ghostly, causeless energy.

She was there. SCP-009-JP. Her uniform was crisp and clean. Her glasses caught the light of a sun that no longer set on civilization.

A group of humans walked past the billboard. One of them, a male, paused. He looked up at the screen. For a second, their eyes met. The girl on the screen did not move. She waited. She waited for the spark. She waited for the fear, the love, the hate—anything that would give her form.

The human tilted his head. He saw only light and shadow. He felt nothing. He grunted, lost interest, and walked away.

SCP-009-JP remained. She did not vanish. She was eternal. She stood in the center of the silent world, a perfect, high-definition image in a decaying reality. She was no longer a monster, nor a god. She was a monument. A tombstone marking the place where intelligent life used to be.

And there she would stand, unblinking and unfeeling, for a million years, waiting for someone—anyone—to wake up and dream again.
