Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: World Restart

I sat in darkness, all alone in an empty void. Not a single off set colour or a flash of light, just pitch black nothingness. I couldn't hear or smell anything and my body couldn't move. My eyes could only dart vigorously around the empty space looking. I wasn't breathing either yet I hadn't passed out from the lack of oxygen. Am I even alive?

In a flash, light jolted from the corner of my eye. It went quickly from a small twinkle into a giant ball of light approaching me. What was going on? Did I die? Is this Heaven? The ball flashed towards me before swallowing me whole. My eyes quickly closed as if it was an involuntary result.

My eyes flickered as I slowly adjusted to the new found light. I eventually got a clear view of my surroundings. There was an unknown wall in front of me and a door to my right. The floor was a dark wooden boarding that reminded me of old fashioned housing and the walls were a light brown stone with small cracks evidently showing.

I jolted my attention away from the wall and looked over to my left to see a taller man with a scruffy beard. While sitting he towered over me making me seem as if I was a small child. His rough reddish brown hair and deep blue eyes that reminded me of an ocean and his defined face with visible scarring across his lips and cheeks gave off stoic fighter vibes.

Strange Man: He has my eyes, and he looks rather healthy.

Woman's Voice: That's lovely! You clean him up, I'm going to rest.

Strange Man: Mhm.

The scruffy man picked me up as I looked down at myself quickly realising something. My body had shrunken! As I looked on in horror the man started steadily walking out of the room while smirking at me. Who was this guy? Where the hell am I?

The man took me through a long corridor. It had the same walls and flooring but had long windows with wooden framing. I got a glimpse outside to see a long grass plain with many smaller trees littering it. The sky was lighter than I remember and the sun was darker than I thought.

The man quickly slammed me down on a small wooden table to my horror as my back ached in pain. I went to yell at him but my voice cords slurred turning into a scream rather than words.

Strange Man: Did I drop him down too hard? Sorry Avery, my son.

Did he just call me Avery? I hope he wasn't saying son as if I was his child. I'm twenty six for god's sake I'm not that young! He then picked me and dropped me into a wooden bucket filled with water. The cold water stabbed needles into my body as I cried out in pain.

The man ignored me and started rubbing his hands on me making a wiping motion. What the hell is this guy's problem? First he throws me into a table, then calls me a different name and finally he calls me his son!

He gives me a smile before lifting me out of the water and wrapping a small cloth around me. Is this meant to be a towel? What a horrible job at it. I lay there freezing to death as the man grabs the bucket and walks away leaving me on the table.

I took in my surroundings, I was in a kitchen even if it looked rather medieval it still had a sink and a stove of some kind. Yet there was no fridge to be seen. I was on a wooden table with wooden chairs surrounding it. While I couldn't get a good look behind me I got a general idea of where I was.

That's when it hit me. I wasn't in my world, rather a new one. Maybe an alternate universe or I went back in time? I'm assuming since I have shrunken I'm probably a baby so that means I reincarnated.

Holy shit! When did I die? Last night was hazy in my head, I have no idea how I could've died. Shit. Well it seems I died and came back in a new body, Avery I think he called me?

Strange Man: Let's take you to your mother then shall we?

He wrapped his hands around me still tucked in my shitty towel and lifted me upwards before giving me another smirk. This must be my father then I think? Might be a doctor.

He walked down the corridor once again. Getting a better look outside I could confirm it. There weren't any skyscrapers or streets with cars on it. I didn't see any powerlines. I was right!

The man quickly darted to the left and we arrived back in the room from before.

Father: Avery's all cleaned up now. You can hold him.

Strange Woman: My son! He's adorable.

Getting a good look at the woman she was a beauty. Long combed blonde hair that glistened in the light coming from the window in the corridor and the candles surrounding her bed. She had soft green eyes that resembled little leaves in her eyes. She was pale yet had bright red cheeks.

My father gently placed me into her hands and I felt her soft hands through the thin towel. A warm feeling ran down my back. This was my mother for sure.

Her smile made me feel at ease as my pained back soothed with her touch. My father cuddled up next to her in the bed and they both admired me.

For the first time in a while I felt a sense of safety even if it was with complete strangers I felt kind of happy.

This was my new life, I had somehow died and been reborn into a new body into a new world. I had hit a world restart.
