Ana's POV
"Ana, Hughes is the child you carried for months. How could you treat him like this just for some other kid?" Aileen's voice cut through the air.
Hughes's face crumpled with hurt. "Yeah, I'm your actual son. We're blood, you know. Why are you siding with a stranger against me?"
I stared at them both, my expression glacial, letting my gaze settle on Hughes with particular coldness.
"My actual son? Blood relation? Seriously?" A bitter laugh escaped my lips.
The irony of those words coming from my own mouth, I thought grimly. "Didn't you always claim you wanted Aileen? You wouldn't stop whining about wanting her as your mother. Well, congratulations—you got your wish. What's the problem now?"
Hughes's expression darkened, embarrassment flooding his features.
My harsh question left him speechless, standing there without a single comeback.
Well, that's exactly what I used to say... How can I argue against that? I could see his internal struggle written all over his face.
