"No, gossip doesn't interest me. And who's to say whether rumors hold any truth?" I replied.
Something shifted in Jimmy's expression, his eyes growing darker. Though I couldn't read his thoughts, tension seemed to coil between us.
"What if some of those rumors happen to be accurate?" he pressed.
"What do you mean?" The question caught me off guard.
His gaze held mine with an intensity that made my pulse quicken. "Take the whispers about the Hamilton family being... unconventional. Including myself. What if I confirmed those stories were real?"
"Are you mentally ill?" I asked bluntly, studying his face.
Surprise flickered across his features. He'd clearly expected a different reaction—maybe fear, maybe revulsion. Instead, he got my straightforward question.
"No," he answered simply.
