Evelin's POV
"Mr. Erik, you done staring at that necklace? Can I have it back?" I stepped right up to Grey, palm extended.
Wallace's mouth pressed into a thin line. He snapped the jewelry box shut and passed it over. "Evelin, Jimmy's seen this necklace before, hasn't he? He must've recognized it as your mother's."
I frowned. "So what if he has?"
Wallace exhaled slowly, his suspicions confirmed.
"Because Jimmy's been hunting for this necklace all this time," he said.
"What?" My eyes widened, blindsided. "Why would he be searching for this?"
"Long ago, some little girl saved his life overseas. He knew it belonged to her mother, so he wanted to track it down—to repay the debt. Never found jack shit for so long. Turns out, it was already back where it belonged." Wallace's words came measured and deliberate.
I just stood there, speechless.
