Evelin's POV
I froze completely. 'Is Jimmy inside?'
Through the door, all I could make out were broken, agonized groans. I moved closer and rapped on the wood, calling out, "Jimmy, are you in there? What's going on?"
The only answer I got was more of those shattered sounds.
I frowned deeply. If Jimmy was fine, he would've answered my knocking and shouting immediately.
Unless something was seriously wrong.
The military had stationed me as his protection because the Hamilton family was collaborating with them on some joint venture, and certain people wanted to destroy that partnership. Until the agreement was sealed, my job was keeping Jimmy alive and stopping any interference.
Had someone gotten to Jimmy?
My body went rigid, every muscle coiling into high alert. Silently, I pulled out the compact pistol I always carried.
Since I was on military assignment, I had clearance to be armed.
The gun only held six rounds, but that was plenty for handling unexpected trouble.
