Evelin's POV
My words hung in the air between us, heavy with meaning.
Jimmy's complexion went ashen. "Cut that out—all this talk about dying and crawling back. When you go, it better be decades from now, both of us ancient and ready to kick off together."
I blinked, feeling my mouth curve upward slightly. 'Is he genuinely scared something might happen to me?'
"Agreed. We'll age together, never apart," I murmured.
Jimmy's lips compressed into a tight line, staying silent.
"It's getting late. We should sleep," I said, taking his hand and pulling him toward the bed. Before he could react, I pushed him down onto the mattress.
"Eve," Jimmy gasped, automatically starting to push himself up.
But I was already hovering over him, my expression serious. "Stay still. I need to see how your injuries are doing."
This was my first real look at him since that night in the flames.
Carson had filled me in on his condition, but I hadn't actually examined the damage myself.
