Evelin's POV
"I won't leave you again," I said, the words tumbling out before I could stop them.
But Jimmy just stared at me, those dark eyes burning with something I couldn't quite read. "Maybe you wouldn't choose to walk away. But what happens when life forces your hand? When circumstances leave you no choice but to abandon me?"
My breath hitched. The question hit like a punch to the gut.
Jimmy moved along the wall, his fingers searching until they found the light switch. Click.
Bright light flooded the room, and I finally got a good look at him.
God, he looked terrible. Thinner than before, skin pale as paper, with dark shadows under his eyes that made my chest ache. His insomnia was clearly getting worse.
His gaze dropped to my casted leg. Without warning, he swept me up, his arms strong despite how fragile he looked, and placed me gently on the couch.
"I'll call someone to drive you home," he said, already reaching for his phone.
