Evelin's POV
"Evelin!" Rex stepped toward me. "When did you get here? Weren't you supposed to arrive in Valdoria today?"
"My original flight hit some issues, so I came early," I replied. "I was planning to visit Alice first, then track you down."
"Why rush things? You could've waited until your leg was better," he said, his gaze dropping to my cast.
"Just need to discuss something with you later," I said.
Rex's face brightened. "Let's head outside and talk. How's the leg coming along?"
"It's okay. Should be able to ditch this cast in a few days," I answered.
"Good to hear," Rex said, moving to Alice's bedside. He opened the breakfast container he'd brought and spoke gently to her, "Got all your favorites here. Try some."
"Okay," Alice said, taking small bites of what Rex had brought.
But after just a few mouthfuls, her face changed completely. She grabbed a plastic bag with practiced movements and began retching.
